1 Introduction
It has been shown that by altering the load program to achieve a longer
acceleration time of the engine, the piston running behavior can be
improved.
This can be achieved by changing the time settings of the load program. The
acceleration time for the ship to gain full away speed will be prolonged by
up to 33 minutes.

2 Current load program

With the current load program there is a significant condensate flow peak
from the scavenge air cooler during acceleration of the engine, especially
when operating in tropical areas.
With the present condensate flow peak there is a certain degree of water
carry-over through the water separator. Water carry-over can be harmful for
the piston running behavior depending on the amount and ambient
conditions (Figure 1).

3 Improved load program
With an improved load program the condensate flow is reduced
significantly (Figure 2).

3.1 Settings
The new settings of parameter T4 will change the load-up phase from full
maneuvering speed to full away speed. It is indicated with the vertical
dashed lines in diagram (Figure 3).
The load-up phase from engine start to full maneuvering will remain the
same.
Consequently the load-up to full away speed will take up to 33 minutes
longer than with the previous settings.

New Settings 45 min 60 min T4

Note: The code for the parameter T4 (Wärtsilä designation) depends on the
Remote Control System maker. Please contact the maker of your system for
adjustment to the new load program settings.
