My interest in renewable energy stems from the global energy crisis and resource
depletion that the world will and is experiencing. I have always had an interest in aiding the
world to provide better forms of sustainable energy. This paper will discuss a less well-known
form of sustainable energy called organic photovoltaics, also known as OPVs. OPVs are, simply
put, a material that uses the sun to generate energy. What sets it apart from other forms of
renewable energy is that it uses organic material (composed of mainly carbon, hydrogen and
oxygen) to generate energy. Because it uses organic material, OPVs can be less of a strain on the
environment, cheap to produce, and easy to manufacture. The only drawback of OPVs is that
they are less efficient than photovoltaics or solar panels that use materials like silicon. This paper
The other topic that I would like to address in this paper is the process of integrating
sustainable energy plans into society. Overall, there is a lot of research being done on ways that
we can improve the way society functions, however it also seems very difficult to change the
way things are done. Laws must be passed through government, and as a coal dependent society,
it seems difficult to change our habits. This paper will also address these concerns and come
to conclusions based on the research. More specifically, the topic of implementing OPVs
will be addressed and what limitations there are to OPV technology. ---Thesis?
