WORK ON KUNG FU PANDA
Mike worked on creating colour keys, environments, props and
tapestry designs for the film.
His use of colour is the most striking thing from his concept art for the
film and the use of traditional Chinese patterns he created. He made
many beautiful different scenes, he mostly focused on the interior shots Fig7, interior concept art by mike
for the film and created may shots for inside the temples that show
how the patterns and colours should be presented in the films.

INSPIRATION
Mike Yamada’s art is a big inspiration to me as I love the way he uses colour in his
pieces and how simple and effective his art is.
Mike Yamada’s use of bright, saturated colour is a main factor of why I chose him to
research as he is not afraid to use them to convey the strong emotion in the pieces.
Another aspect I enjoy is his use of lighting as it is very effective in portraying the
depth and shadows in the art piece, thus, I have taken some of these elements and
tried to implement them into my finished paintings.
