General Conference Information

Conference Address
All sessions and workshops for Friday and Saturday will be held on the sixth floor of the
Student Center East Tower University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) campus, located at
750 S. Halsted Street, Chicago IL, 60608.

Registration
On-site conference registration will be held on the sixth floor of the UIC Student Center
East Tower building on Friday evening and Saturday morning.

Wifi Access
All attendees will have Wifi access while at UIC. When on campus, turn on Wifi and
select “UIC Guest”. Enter username “ecoc_2” and password “soph8Yaq”.

Friday Night Opening Reception


Please join us Friday afternoon, October 26th, 2018, for our opening reception from
4:00 PM to 7:00 PM in room 605, located on the sixth floor of the Student Center East
Tower. During the reception, our keynote speaker and panel of invited community
organizations will engage the audience in a conversation about transforming
communities and changing lives. Food and drinks will be provided during the event.

Friday Night Networking


After the Friday night opening reception, join us in a networking event at PhD Pub,
located at ​1257 S Halsted St, Chicago, IL 60607.​ ​Please note this reception is ​not
included in your registration.

Conference Day Lunch


Coffee, tea, and light snacks will be provided throughout the day on Saturday. A filtered
water station is located by the escalators of the sixth floor. Attendees are encouraged to
bring their refillable water bottles and take advantage of the water station. During the
lunch break, attendees are welcomed to buy their food from great local restaurants.

Keynote Speaker

Dr. Yolanda Suarez-Balcazar is a


Professor and Head of the Department
of Occupational Therapy at UIC,
Professor in the Department of
Disability and Human Development and
Affiliate faculty in the Department of
Psychology. Trained as a community
researcher, Dr. Suarez-Balcazar brings
over 25 years of experience conducting
community-based participatory research
in collaboration with Latino communities
and individuals with disabilities. In her
research, she studies the design,
implementation, and evaluation of
obesity prevention and health promotion
interventions targeting disadvantaged
communities. She also studies empowerment evaluation, evaluation capacity building,
and strategies for building the capacity of community organizations and health
professionals to provide culturally relevant programming. She is a Fellow of the
American Psychological Association, Society for Community Research and Action
(SCRA) and a Fellow of the Midwestern Psychological Association. She is the previous
President of the Society for Community Research and Action and a mentor for the
Leaders in Equity Evaluation and Diversity (LEEAD) program from the Anne E. Casey
Foundation.
