“Chicka Chicka Boom Boom”

ABC’s Activity

Lesson Overview/Rationale:

● Students will be able to identify the uppercase and lowercase letters of the

alphabet and put them in the correct order. Students will do this in groups of five.

Curriculum Framework/Standard:

● “Demonstrate command of the conventions of standard English grammar and

usage when writing or speaking.”

● “Know MANY uppercase and lowercase letters.”

Learning Objectives:

● Students will identify the letters of the alphabet.

● Students will organize letters in the alphabetical order.

● Students will organize the letters by uppercase and lowercase.

Technology Uses:
● Computer

● Promethean Board/ presentation software

Materials:

● 11x14 construction paper

● Pre cut upper and lower case letters

● Glue sticks

Procedure:

● Teacher will present the book “Chicka Chicka Boom Boom” via powerpoint

presentation.

● Students will get into groups of five.

● Each group will be assigned 5 letters. ( Group1: B-F, Group 2: G-K, Group 3: L-

P, Group 4: Q-U, Group 5: V-Z)

● The groups will be given the pre-cut upper and lowercase letters assigned to

them, construction paper (1 per group) and a glue stick by the teacher.

● Teacher will demonstrate with the letter A, gluing the uppercase A down first

followed by the lowercase A right beside it.

● One student in each group will be in charge of one letter.

● The students will glue the letters down on the construction paper in the correct

order of the alphabet, and the uppercase, followed by the lowercase letter.

Assessment:

● I checked during the group activity that the students can determine between the

uppercase and lowercase letters.


● Each group will be evaluated on the construction paper they turn in as a group

that they were able to identify the order of the alphabet, and that they were able

to organize the letters, uppercase being first and lowercase being second.
