ENGLISH
The goal of SABIS® K - 12 English is to develop proficiency in the English language as a tool for
communicating effectively across the curriculum and as an instrument for thinking, learning, and
imagining.
The courses are aligned to national and international frameworks, and they build the knowledge
and develop the skills needed for high school and college. Courses are delivered through a
structured series of texts, supported by customized workbooks, teacher guides, dictionaries, and
other supplementary materials that offer teachers and students strong support.

Students develop reading fluency
through the SABIS® Phonic Readers. These
feature phonetic CVC and CVCe words, blends,
and digraphs that correspond to the phonics lesson
just learned to solidify the associated phonics lessons.
Careful introduction of ‘high frequency’ words with a review
of sounds previously taught allows students to read stories in
everyday language that they can easily understand. Events in
the stories are closely linked to attractive illustrations.

SPELLING
The revised SABIS® Spelling series Levels C - E initially follows the SABIS® phonic
progression and provides a wide range of activities to help students reinforce their
phonics knowledge and increase their spelling ability. Later workbooks are based on the
world-renowned Dolch-Fry lists, and practice words with common phonetic or structural
elements. The program connects spelling with phonics, vocabulary, and writing to
promote success for our students.
14 English
GRAMMAR
The SABIS® Grammar series aims to teach standard sentence structure and
correct usage that students can apply to all aspects of their ELA course. The course
breaks the complexities of the structure of the English language into bite-sized pieces
and explains it in ways that are easy to understand. Each level of the SABIS® Grammar
series builds on and revises the course of the previous year until mastery is achieved.
The SABIS® Accelerated Grammar series is designed to support students who have missed
elements of grammar teaching in the early years of their education. It contains a digest of all
grammatical points taught in Levels E - H, complete with exercises on each point. The level of
each point’s introduction is clearly indicated, enabling teachers and students to select the points
needed to bring the students’ knowledge in line with their peers.

FRENCH
The SABIS® French program prepares SABIS® students to communicate in French while expanding
their general knowledge. French courses at SABIS® are provided through a series of books, packed
with lively colors and illustrations that accommodate different ages and language levels.
Our visual input will help strengthen understanding, accelerate oral fluency, and facilitate reading
ability in the new language.
Our program methodology allows SABIS® students to pass the official French exams, in addition
to all types of entrance exams in francophone universities such as the DELF, the DALF, the ICGSE,
and AP exams.
LEVELS A AND B
In a simple yet effective method, Mon premier livre de lecture Niveau A and Mon
livre de lecture Niveau B teach the French alphabet to students at Levels A and B.
Sons et Lecture A and B, Cahier d’expression A and B, and Chiffres et formes en couleurs
A and B are illustrated books that also contain simple exercises and applications.
The words, phonics, and picture cards are created to enhance the learning of vocabulary
in the classroom.
In Sons et Lecture and Mon livre de lecture, kindergarten students learn proper
pronunciation and reading with illustrations and exercises.

GRAMMAIRE GRAMMAR
Incorporating the SABIS® system of learning through repetition and addition, the
Grammaire book series exploits students’ analytical capacity to deduce rules through
observation.
These are then stated simply and clearly and are supported by many examples, exercises,
and applications for additional practice and drilling.
This series is designed to offer a solid foundation for mastering the principal rules of the
French language.

J’APPRENDS LE FRANÇAIS B1
Cécile, Thierry, Madame Leduc, and their friends are the people to know for
those who want to learn to speak and write in Victor Hugo’s language.
Students learn vocabulary, conjugation, composition, and the basics of French
grammar, through texts related to themes accompanied by a variety of exercises.
French 105
LES AVENTURES D’ÉRIC
This book is a compilation of short texts about Eric’s adventures. Eric is an eight-
year-old boy who settles with his family in a new city, discovers a new environment and
friends, and consequently goes on new adventures.
Passages are short and introduce students to new vocabulary. This reading book offers a
smooth approach to the French language for intermediate-level students at levels E to G.
At the end of the book, a lexical index translated into English has been added to facilitate
the acquisition of French vocabulary. An illustrated dictionary, a workbook of vocabulary, and
comprehension and writing exercises accompany the reading book. Through the CD, students
can listen to the texts and improve their pronunciation skills.
106 French
CÉCILE
For students who are not able to follow the regular program, we have
developed an Intermediate textbook called Cécile. The content talks about
the life routine of a ten-year-old girl. The texts are simple, the vocabulary is
basic, the syntax is appropriate to pre-teens, and the conjugation almost avoids
the French narrative past tense. As with Les aventures d’Éric, the textbook is
accompanied by an illustrated dictionary translated into English and a workbook
of vocabulary, comprehension, and oral-written expression. A CD helps the
students to acquire the correct pronunciation. At the end of the book, a glossary
translated into English facilitates vocabulary learning.
French 107
UNIVERS ADOS
Designed for beginners who have little or no competency in French, Univers Ados 1
provides the linguistic foundation crucial for learners who are in the process of studying
French. Next in the sequence is Univers Ados 2, which is intended for students at an
intermediate level. This book comprises accessible texts that describe what modern life is
like mostly in France. Each book features a wide range of exercises that cover vocabulary,
comprehension, oral and written expression, as well as grammar and conjugation exercises
pertinent to the texts already studied. Univers Ados 5 of this series is designed for level L.
Suitable for students who have already completed four years of French, this book achieves a
more advanced difficulty level and a more challenging content to arm students and prepare
them for the IGCSE exam.

SPANISH
SABIS® offers a Spanish book series that starts with the pronunciation and writing of letters and
moves on to readers that include real and imaginary characters. In working with them, students
exercise their reading comprehension abilities and enhance their vocabulary. These books are
teamed with dictionaries, workbooks, grammar books, CDs, and flashcards to motivate students to
reach their highest potential in learning Spanish as a second language.
FONÉTICA PHONICS
Level B
Level D
On the first level, students are gently introduced to the Spanish alphabet through a
phonetic approach. Children learn to identify the sounds of each letter, join them into
syllables, and form words, thus building the foundation for reading and understanding
the Spanish language.
On the second level, students reinforce these skills, while discovering and practicing
more complex syllables, a process made easy by the SABIS® method.
Short and amusing stories, exercises, and tongue twisters take learners through an
enjoyable journey: “from sounds to words” into the world of Spanish!

CUENTOS READERS
Level C Level D
To support the learning of the Spanish language, each reader comes with a dictionary
and a workbook. In the dictionaries, each word includes its grammatical status and a clear
and simple definition bearing in mind the level of the reader to which it is addressed. In the
case of younger children, a sentence is also included so they can see how the word is properly
used. The aim of our workbooks is to examine the text from different angles until students
have squeezed out the biggest amount of learning possible and developed their abilities to the
fullest. For this purpose, the workbooks are divided into two basic parts, reading comprehension
and vocabulary, where the new words are learned and strengthened. The workbooks include a
group of questions that relate the story to the students’ experience and motivate them to practice
conversation and share points of view in Spanish.

GRAMÁTICA GRAMMAR
The program is devised around grammar concepts, although it also includes other
essential elements for the use of the language, such as vocabulary and expressions. The
grammar concepts, as well as the other skills, have been assigned to the different levels
according to a progressive increase in complexity.
The books are written completely in Spanish, and can be used in class with the guidance of a
teacher, or at home as self-study material.
All the subjects included in the books follow an explanation-practice pattern. The exercises have a
double purpose: to practice the topic studied and to enrich the students’ vocabulary. Every concept
taught at one level is reviewed throughout several subsequent levels, to ensure long-term retention.

El DICCIONARIO DE ANDRÉS
Level F Level G
To provide its students with an enjoyable and smooth learning experience, SABIS® has also
created four workbooks to match each level of El Diccionario de Andrés. These workbooks
contain dynamic exercises that look to enhance reading comprehension, help form words and
sentences, and strengthen the vocabulary introduced in each unit, thus providing the students
with an opportunity to put into practice what they have learned.
SABIS® strives for excellence and is always looking for ways to enhance learning. El Diccionario
de Andrés has incorporated the use of Spanish recorded material for the evaluation of listening
comprehension abilities.
126 Spanish
Posters and Flashcards
All the readers aimed at children in the lower levels have been recorded into
audiobooks. Narrated by a well-known Peruvian professional singer and storyteller,
the audiobooks provide students with an excellent opportunity to exercise their auditory
comprehension and improve pronunciation and intonation.
El Diccionario de Andrés also includes a set of CDs with amusing and entertaining songs
which underpin the vocabulary from units of each book. While singing, children not only
have fun but also vocalize words in the target language while repeating grammatically correct
phrases and sentences, thus enhancing their learning. Flashcards are also implemented to
promote the recollection of words and their meanings.

Level J
El curso veloz (The Crash Course) is aimed at children who join the SABIS®
system at intermediate grades with no previous knowledge of the Spanish
language. The goal is to introduce them to the basic concepts of Spanish, so
they can attain their classmates’ level in the shortest possible time.
128 Spanish
A new book series is presently under creation: !Habla ya! This specially designed
book series has the goal of preparing students to successfully approve the National Spanish
Examination. The first of these books, for level 1, will be introduced in the 2014-15 academic
year, with the rest of the levels soon following.
