1. Determine the pressure exerted on the surface of submarines cruising 100 m

below the free surface of the sea .Assume that the barometric pressure is 101
KPa and the specific gravity of sea water is 1.03.

2. A gas is contained in vertical , frictionless piston-cylinder system . the piston

has a mass of 4 kg and cross sectional area of 35 cm2 . A compressed spring
above the piston exerts a force of 60 N on the piston .if the atmospheric
pressure is 95 KPa, determine the pressure inside the cylinder.

3. In Fig. the tank contains water and immiscible oil at 20°C. What is h in cm if
the density of the oil is 898 kg/𝑚3 ?

4. The fuel gage for a gasoline tank in a car reads proportional to the bottom
gage pressure as in Fig. If the tank is 30 cm deep and accidentally contains 2
cm of water plus gasoline, how many centimeters of air remain at the top
when the gage erroneously reads “full”?

7. For the inverted manometer in Fig, all fluids are at 20C. If PB - PA = 97 kPa,
what must the height H be in cm?

8. In Fig, determine the gage pressure at point A in Pa. Is it higher or lower than
atmospheric?
