How to Understand EWM

Putaway Rules and Strategies
Home >> EWM >> How to Understand EWM Putaway Rules and Strategies

Executive Summary
Putaway is one of the major functionalities in EWM which we cover in
this article.

Introduction: How to Use

Putaway
Putaway is how stock is accepted and moved into storage in EWM. You
will learn how EWM is configured to allow for putaway.

How is Putaway
Accomplished in EWM?
This is how EWM determines the destination putaway bin locations in
the warehouse.
If you use manual entry, the system does not determine a storage section
or a storage bin. You enter the destination storage bin manually when
the warehouse tasks is created. These are the different strategies.

Manual entry

General Storage

Pallet storage
Now we need to check the storage type search sequence.
Now we want to check the specific storage type search sequence for
putaway table to ensure that there is an entry in the table for our
warehouse that will determine the storage type 0050 in the Putaway
Control Indicator (PACI).

This is just to check that the entry sequence exists and will determine the
Storage Type Search and that the sequence is 0050 which it is .
Now we want to assign a storage bin to our products.

We will assign 2 bins.

Now we want to create a Storage Type Data view in the warehouse

product master for storage type 0050 for our test product. We will set the
PACI 0050 in the warehouse product master record for their product.
Here we can select the bins that have been assigned to this product.
We will note these storage bins for future use.

0050-01-01-B

0050-01-01-C

Now we close this window and head back to the Warehouse Product
screen. We will select the SL Type Data tab and enter the storage type
and the Max no of Bins as 2.
We will then select adopt data.
This adds the Fixed Bin Storage to the Storage Types area.

We want to the check the Putaway Control Indicator on the Whse Data
tab.

Now we will go and change the storage bins that we evaluated earlier.

This screen is very important because you set up the characteristics of

the bin.
We are changing the maximum weight of the storage bin.

Configuration Areas of the

Storage Bin
What is interesting is the number of configuration areas of the storage
bin. Also if you select the Whse Task you can see the tasks associated
with this bin. This bin information works in conjunction with slotting
and rearrangement. See these posts for more detail:

Slotting

Rearrangement
Creating POs in SAP ERP
Now that we have set up our bins, we want to test it by creating a
purchase order and for this, we need to go to SAP ERP.
Now we want to add the confirmation key.

Create the Inbound Delivery

Now we want to create the inbound delivery.
Then select enter.
Then select the header tophat.

Then enter the number below into the Administration tab.

By saving we create the inbound delivery.

Maintaining the Inbound

Delivery in EWM
Now we want to maintain the inbound delivery in EWM.
Now we can see our Inbound Delivery. We will want to check the ID
number that we earlier entered.

Now we will want to goto follow on functions.

Now we select the create button.

We can check the destinations, and we can see the storage bins are
correct.
So now we can save.

The Warehouse Monitor

Next, we goto the warehouse monitor. We want to select Inbound
Delivery node.

Our document is the last one.

If we select on it, we can see two tasks.

We can select both tasks and select Confirm Backgr.

We get the messages below.

Next, we can goto the Physical Stock under Stock and Bin

Finally, we want to check the products that are delivered by rail.

Changing the PACI

First we need to change the PACI on two materials.
See the putway indicator as P150.
