STRUCTURAL MECHANICS I
HOME WORK NO. 15

 Textbook Sections Covered: 12.2, 12.3.

 DUE DATE: Thursday, May 3, 2018

(1) Determine the slope of end A of the cantilevered beam. E = 200 GPa and I = 65.0×106 mm4.

(2) Determine the maximum deflection of the simply supported beam. E = 200 GPa and I = 39.9×10-6 m4.
(3) A picture is taken of a man performing a pole vault, and the minimum radius of curvature of the pole
is estimated by measurement to be 4.5 m. If the pole is 50 mm in diameter and it is made of a glass-
reinforced plastic for which Eg = 130 GPa, determine the maximum bending stress in the pole.

(4) Determine the maximum deflection of the cantilevered beam. The beam is made of material having
an E = 200 GPa and I = 65.0×106 mm4.

(5) The beam is subjected to the load shown. Determine the equation of the elastic curve. EI is constant.
