    EML 5526 Finite Element Analysis and Applications

    Assignment

    Problem 1:

    For the beam shown in the figure, determine the following using the finite element
    method. Show all the steps in the method (including element equations, assembly and
    application of boundary conditions and forces).
    (i) Compute the displacements and the slopes at the nodes,
    (ii) What are the forces & moments on each element, and
    (iii) Determine the reactions at the wall and roller.
    (iv) Write the equation of the beam deflection for the element between nodes 1-2 using
    the beam shape functions.

    Problem 2:

    For the beam shown in the figure, determine the nodal displacements and slopes, the
    forces in each element, and the reactions using the finite element method. Show all the
    steps in the method.
