DISCUSSION
Here are some questions to start the discussion. You can answer as many of these as
you want, but you do not need to answer them all. Of course, feel free to discuss any
aspect of the story so far, even if it's not listed as a question. Also, if there are things
you don't understand, please ask!

1. The subtitle of this novel is "The Modern Prometheus". Who was Prometheus? How
does this subtitle reflect the text so far?

2. Who is Walton? Is he a reliable narrator? Explain why or why not.

R. Walton is Margaret’s brother. Read it again. I think he is because he is narrating all


what he is been finding or observing in those new lands for him. He made some
flashback when he talked about all what he did to be prepare to take that adventure that
he will guide to those new land.

3. Find quotations that illustrate the difference between Henry and Victor as characters.

10. Why does Shelley include so much description of nature? What do the natural
phenomena symbolize?

11. Is Frankenstein's creature a villain? Do you find him a sympathetic character?

12. What will cause the creature to change? Keep in mind his statement: "I was benevolent
and good; misery made me a fiend. Make me happy, and I shall again be virtuous." Is
Shelley showing psychological insight? Explain.
