DISCUSSION
Here are some questions to start the discussion. You can answer as many of these as
you want, but you do not need to answer them all. Of course, feel free to discuss any
aspect of the story so far, even if it's not listed as a question. Also, if there are things
you don't understand, please ask!
1. The subtitle of this novel is "The Modern Prometheus". Who was Prometheus? How
does this subtitle reflect the text so far?
3. Find quotations that illustrate the difference between Henry and Victor as characters.
5.
6. escribe Elizabeth as ‘the saintly soul’ who shone like a shrine-dedicated lamp in our
peaceful home." How does this affect reading?
7. What is "the Philosopher’s Stone"? Where else might you have read about this?
10. Why does Shelley include so much description of nature? What do the natural
phenomena symbolize?
12. What will cause the creature to change? Keep in mind his statement: "I was benevolent
and good; misery made me a fiend. Make me happy, and I shall again be virtuous." Is
Shelley showing psychological insight? Explain.
