INTRODUCTION

A surau is generally thought of as a place for obligatory prayer and other religious assemblies.
However, in the context of current Islamization in Malaysia, both institutions have the additional
responsibility of doing mission work (dakwah) in view of heightening the people consciousness
of the relevance of Islam in modern times. Thus the ability of a surau to organize a range of socio-
religious activities for this purpose greatly affects its identity, character and status as an Islamic
sanctuary.

So in our survey that have been done before we want to create the project plan, we have been
decided to choose Surau An-Nuur, Jalan 1, UKM to be our place to run the activities to improve
the social community of Surau An-Nuur. Based on our survey, we have found Surau An-Nuur
have the problem with the community engagement rather than financial problem. As usually,
others surau at certain place can improved by getting the financial resources to make the facilities
of surau getting better but Surau An-Nuur are more really need with community engagement rather
than financial resources.

Basically, from our observation we have found Surau An-Nuur has the problem toward this kind
of things:
 Toilet Hygiene
 Old Quran
 In-charge person not being
 Old Carpet
responsible.
 Leaking Roof
 Lack of supervision from
authorities.
To improvised the facility and the management of Surau An-Nuur, we would like to implement
the 5s that known as Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize and Sustain. 5s is a system for
organizing spaces so work can be performed efficiently, effectively and safely. This system
actually focuses on putting everything where it belongs and keeping the workplace clean, which
makes it easier for people to their jobs without wasting time or risking injury.

Implementation of 5s toward Surau An-Nuur would give a big improvement toward the
community because it will help them to decide how to be effective and efficiency in perform a
better management for the surau committee and public.
Purpose of Project Management Plan

The purpose of this project are:

 Improvement on productivity
 Safety and Cleanliness
 Cost management and financial advisory
 Improvement on image and reputation

By implementing 5S method toward surau, it will help to improve the productivity which is all
members or community will have their own position to make the surau become a better place and
getting more focus by increasing the efficiency in management progress. Actually, 5S also can be
use in their house and it can give a good example to the young people nowadays because 5S are
not only use for organization or management but it’s also can be used by anyone and everywhere.

Besides that, by implementing the 5S toward surau also can improve the safety and cleanliness
such as making the surau become more secure and safe for all peoples to come and used the
facilities like having a CCTV that can secure every movement in the surau. Besides that, it’s also
help in maintaining the hygiene of the surau facilities such as toilet or wudu’ place because in
some surau, the community does not care about the hygiene.

However, by implementing the 5s toward surau we also can help to improve their cost
management and giving financial advisory to have a better understanding in cost management
due to many surau cannot manage their financial and could not make activities that attract peoples
to come to the surau. Beside that, we also can get the funder to improve the facilities of surau so
they can be sustaining to their financial for the long terms.

This project also helps to make an improvement on the image and reputation of surau by having
a lot of activities that been conduct by us and improve the community engagement which is getting
more attract to come the surau and get used with the new environment. All the things that been
improve will give a great reputation to the surau and getting more well-known to others
neighbourhood.
