THE TRUMPET CALL

Our Mission: To love Jesus Christ and to share His Love

Our Vision: To be a Christian community where Christ is transforming lives

East Stroudsburg United Methodist Church Volume IV Issue 43 October 28, 2018

Pastor’s Corner
We have all been saddened to learn of the passing of Linda Drake, or as
she was affectionately known to the youth of our church, "LSD" (Linda
Sue Drake). Linda gave her heart and soul to so many things in the
church, it's hard to imagine our church life without her. Even when she
was being treated for cancer, she felt she had to go on our spring mission
trip to Tarboro, NC. Here's one of my favorite photos of her from that trip, pulling a nail from a
piece of trim. She did this for hours at a time! When she injured herself on another job site and
needed a large number of stitches in her leg, she still insisted on joining us at the worksite on
the second day of her healing. The other nine of us on the trip truly treasured the time we had
with Linda, on what turned out to be her final mission trip.

The month of November is soon upon us, with many important things in store for our church.
On November 4, we will remember all the "saints" as we ring bells at both services to
remember Linda and all others who have passed into glory during the past year. It is always a
poignant time for our church family to remember these dearly departed saints. November 4 will
also signal the end of our all-church study and sermon series, I Am a Church Member. I pray
we have all had good discussions in our small groups and have some great take-aways from
the experience.

We will suspend discipleship classes for two Sundays in a row, before starting up again on November 25. The reason is
that on November 11, we will share in a Ministry Event whereby the congregation is encouraged to mingle with ministry
leaders and team members who will share with you the importance of their ministries as a way to help get others involved.
Rather than having tables set up around Fellowship Hall, we will encourage one-on-one conversation. Prior to that Sunday,
all should have received in the mail a commitment booklet for 2019. That booklet not only contains pages to be torn out
and deposited on Celebration Sunday, but devotionals and descriptions of ministry opportunities.

Previously, we've had Commitment Sunday as the day to turn in commitments of time, talent, and financial resources.
We've renamed it Celebration Sunday this year, because our aim is to truly celebrate all that God has done/is doing among
us. Celebration Sunday will be November 18, and as a way to celebrate, we will enjoy one worship service together at
10:00 AM. Please mark your calendars now so you don't forget! Following the service, we will re-gather in Fellowship Hall
to enjoy a luncheon with the theme, "A Slice of Pie." More details will follow, but we hope you will make plans now to be
there.
Many Blessings, Pastor Jim
