SECTION 4- FROM MATTALA TO HAMBANTOTA VIA ANDARAWEWA
Subject: UPV Test Report for Aqueduct and Acceptance with Professor’s Conclusion

This refers to your letter No: CHEC/RDA/SEEP/CONT/S4/01.01/O/005122 dated 27 th


October 2018 regarding the above subject.

Having reviewed your submission under reference, we wish to make our comments as
follows.

1) Base and haunch areas have not been tested and the quality of such locations is not
known. You are required to clarify on the same in consultation with the university
professor.
2) Under the comment E.12, separate drawing including all the details is required for
the additional lining and its joints (ie: detailing)
3) Details of the specialized local subcontractor should be submitted for the
Engineer’s approval. The details shall include but not be limited to the company

profile, qualifications of the personnel to be involved, past performance of the
company regarding similar repair works. [A company recommended by the
university expertise involved in this investigation is preferred.]
4) Adequacy of existing sub structure for the additional load due to concrete lining
should be proved and ensured.
5) Formal submission should be made for the Engineer’s approval with regards to the
repair materials recommended by the university expertise.
6) Repair works should be carried out in fully compliance with the requirements
mentioned in the report prepared by the university expertise.
7) Repair works from the preliminary stage itself should be carried out under the close
supervision of Engineer’s staff with the formal submission of RICF.
8) Contractor should bear any additional cost & time relevant to this repair works.
9) The elevation of the top surface base board(the additional repaired waterproof-
layer) of the internal superstructure aqueduct should match with the elevation of
external canal,or match with the original design elevation to ensure the water
flowing without blocked.
10) The calculation should also need to consider about the changed area of the flow
cross-section of the aqueduct superstructure,further to changed the capacity of
water flow volume,velocity and water pressure.Contractor should also need to
consider about these effects to the superstructure/substructure of the aqueduct.

Subject to the compliance with the above requirements, we have “No Objections” that you
could carry out the initial preparation works for the aforementioned repair please.
