ROUND/CANON WORK
Develop harmony pieces over time, even years.
Beginning rounds should be very simple and with no big leaps- must match age ability.
Before singing as round: sing as a tandem piece, sing as an ostinati piece, solo/ensemble
Build a Circle. Circle Up! Divide strong singers. Add appropriate motions.
Strengthen parts: Tug of War! Teacher support. Recording support. Shoulder slant. Exaggerate diction. Strong phrasing.
Familiarity breeds success in round/canon work.
Expect pitch and meter problems in early round/canon work.
Round killers are lack of familiarity, meter instability, flat tone and poor tuning.

CHOOSING EASY TWO-PART OCTAVOS


Echo Like, Round Like, Partner Like.
Mostly melody with harmony at cadence or end of piece.
Harmony in simple thirds, especially above.
Be careful of music that switches from melody to harmony too much.
Edit music- do you want to spend your time correcting notes or developing the music?
