Buttress threads are threads with two different flank
angles and these are standard but with various different
flank angles. Just to mention a few 45º & 7º, 30º & 3º and
45º & 5º.

Research Philosophy
The failure of the jump‐out of the oil‐gas well casing thread is
one of the several failure types of casing.
Once the jump‐out accident of casing connection occurs, it will
cause the well to discard as useless and the big economic loss of
the oil field.
The gas seal of the API thread connection is poor for the deep
well and extra‐deep well in the west China, the failure of the
connection thread was seriously jumped out.

3.Materials and Methods
10
3‐1. The jump‐out main factors
The speed of running casing at up and down live casing was too fast
Shape of thread (flank angle, taper of thread, height,…)
Material performance (stress‐strain curve)

3‐3. Loading process
Under the three flank angles 30, 50 and 100 for the
buttress casing connector
the three tapers 1/14, 1/16 and 1/17, for the round casing
connector

5. Conclusion
23
1. The average jump‐out force of the buttress connector is 594.1 ton.
and same structure size, the average jump‐out force of the round
connector is 342.5 ton.
2. For the buttress thread, the jump‐out loads on the casing connection
will decrease with the incensement of the flank angle, namely, the
connection is more easily jumped out.
24
3. For the round thread, the jump‐out loads of the round connection
were gradually decreased with the increment of the thread tapers.
Under the condition of the requirement to meet the taper structure,
the thread taper degrees are as less as possible.
4. From the prevention of the connection jump‐out mechanism, the
casing of the buttress should be extensively used in the oil filed
especially in extra depth well and complex well.
