How to Troubleshoot the “Nothing to print” message when generating reports

This article describes how to troubleshoot the “Nothing to print” message that can appear when
generating reports in Alice.

The “Nothing to print” message is most commonly due to invalid or incorrect choices in the
various ranges and restrictions of the report parameters.
The majority of Alice reports have the ability to look at one or more ranges/restrictions to reduce
the number of records returned in the report. This does not mean that all ranges/restrictions
need, or can be selected in conjunction with each other. The best option is to test the report for
your purposes.
When testing a report always select print to screen and if a report such as an overdue notice
asks you to accept the update after the report is generated always select “No”.
Follow each of these steps in order when testing a report for its suitability:
1. Generate the report without applying any ranges or restrictions.
2. Apply only one range/restriction.
3. Increment the number of ranges/restrictions by one.
4. Repeat step 3 until you are satisfied with the report or all ranges/restrictions are
selected.

How to print a list of SCIS records recently catalogued

Using the Resource report, it is possible to print a list of resources that have been catalogued
on a certain date or between specified dates. This can be useful for printing out a list of
resources that have been loaded using SCIS on a certain date or within a date range.
To print this report:
1. Go to Management / Reports / Resource.

2. Choose a report format from the drop-down menu at the top of the window.
3. Enter the date range of when the SCIS load was completed in the “Catalogued between”
section. You only need to enter the date in the first field of this restriction if the date
range is a single day. Please note that this report will present all resources catalogued
on or between in dates entered, not just SCIS records.
4. Press the print button to produce the report.
Restrictions for this report can be used to restrict the report even further however, they are not
necessary.
