ABSTRACT

In today’s world the students are different from those of 20 years ago, and we cannot assume that the classes will be
of full strength with clear-minded, highly motivated individuals who have no other priority than studying what we
want to teach them. Present students are different, and very complex to understand in this volatile and demanding
Higher Education environment. Engagement with college life is seen as important aspect to facilitate in students the
ability to develop key capabilities such as critical thinking, problem-solving, writing skills, teamwork and
communication skills. These skills are very essential for getting them employed. To make students stay in college,
they need to be engaged with their education. It is hence imperative that teachers need to understand the needs,
interests and engage them according to the class requirement. Hence this present study focuses on the different
levels of engagement and the various ways to engage the students for effective teaching and hence enhanced
learning. To have firsthand information a research was conducted to gather primary data using the questionnaire and
was administered to 150 undergraduate students in Hyderabad
