THE MIRACLE’S LORD

The Dark Christ or Lord of the Earthquakes, more commonly called Lord of Miracles, is an image of Jesus Christ originally painted on an
adobe wall, located behind the High Altar of the Sanctuary of Las Nazarenas in Lima (Peru) and venerated in Lima and different
parts of the world. The image was painted during the seventeenth century by a slave originally from Angola who was taken to Peru.
The festival of the Lord of Miracles is the main Catholic celebration in Peru and one of the largest processions in the world.

Its procession is a Peruvian tradition, considered the most numerous periodic religious Catholic manifestation in the world. [Citation

Barrenechea. Later, the images of God the Father, Mary and Mary Magdalene were added. He is known as Cristo Moreno because,
among his believers, black people predominated. It could be related, as the historian María Rostworowski explains, with the millenary
worship of the god Pachacámac, just for having been painted in the Pachacamilla neighborhood in the center of Lima.

Due to the slave traders, a significant part of these immigrants came from the Atlantic coast of West Africa, which were classified by
castes: Congo, Mandingo, Caraveli, Mondongos, Mozambicans, Terranovians, Mines and Angolas. Approximately 10,000 inhabitants of
Lima were organized in such a way that they built their rough cabins or alleys divided into live, that is, the Bantu or the Kimbundo,
they sang old songs from their homelands as they came from West Africa. They also took care of their patients and made sure that
everyone had a decent burial, through small quotas of brothers.
