LABORATORY REPORT
EXPERIMENT 1:
BLOOD GROUPING
(Date of Experiment: 20/03/2018)

NAME: NURUL HAZIQAH BINTI HASAN

NO ID: 2016666772
GROUP: AS2535B2

GROUP MEMBERS’ NAME:

RAHAYU BINTI ABDUL RAHMAN 2016666766

LECTURER’S NAME: DR KAVITHA RAJAGOPAL

RESULTS:

1. The results of blood typing will determine if a person is type A, B, AB, or O and if he or
she is Rh negative or positive. The results will tell the healthcare provider what blood or
blood components will be safe for the person to receive.

Please fill up the following table to shows what types of blood patients can safely receive,
based on their individual blood type.

Blood Group and Rh Type of Safe (Compatible) Blood Types for RBC
Patient Transfusion*
A positive A positive, A negative
O positive, O negative
A negative A negative, O negative
B positive B positive, B negative
O positive, O negative
B negative B negative, O negative
AB positive AB positive, AB negative
A positive, A negative
B positive, B negative
O positive, O negative
AB negative AB negative, A negative
B negative, O negative
O positive O positive, O negative
O negative O negative

2. How are blood groups determined?

All humans or individuals can be categories based on their ABO blood group. This
system also known as ABO blood group system. There are four principal types: A, B,
AB, and O. The blood groups determine by the presence or absence of the A and B
antigens on our red blood cells.
3. Do you need to know your blood type?

Yes. For the emergency purposes.

4. What are the main human blood group systems?

The ABO blood group system.

5. What are the blood types of the ABO blood system?

Blood type A
Blood type B
Blood type AB
Blood type O

6. What is the Rh factor?

Rh factor is a type of protein on the surface of red blood cells (RBC) which the presence
of Rf factor indicate that the blood type is positive and those with no Rh factor are Rh-
negative.
DISCUSSION:

1. Who are the Universal Blood Donors and Recipients?

Universal Blood Donors – Blood Type AB
Universal recipients – Blood Type O

2. Why are blood groups important?

To prevent the risk by receiving any an incompatible blood type which if any two
different blood types are mixed, it can lead to a clumping of blood cells that can be
potentially fatal. Also known as transfusions phenomenon.

3. Is ABO blood compatibility enough for safety of blood transfusion?

Yes.

4. What is the Rh typing of the mother and of the fetus in the hemolytic disease of the
newborn?
Rh typing of the mother is negative and Rh typing of the fetus is positive, thus there are
incompatibilities between them.

5. “Could a man with type B blood and a woman with type AB blood produce a child with
type O blood” Is a type O possible in this situation?
Yes.
CONCLUSION:

From my own blood test result it can be concluded that I am a type B negative blood.
