1 DELIVERY TO SITE

The Ludowici screen body will be delivered to site fully assembled (screens may be delivered with
exciters removed if height restrictions are imposed for transporting). Drive assembly, springs, and spring
bases will be dispatched separately.

Check all items for damage incurred during transport and unloading, and before installation work is
undertaken.

2 LIFTING

Lifting points may be provided for the attachment of lifting chains or hooks, and would be indicated on
lifting diagram plate attached to side plate. If lifting points are not provided, see Lifting Guide attached
to machine.

The screen must always be placed on timber blocks, placed under the spring pedestals or side plates
when pedestals have not been fitted, so that the side plates do not come in contact with the ground.
Weight of screen: Refer to Installation Layout Drawing and Lifting Guide attached to the machine.

CAUTION! ALWAYS FOLLOW THE LIFTING GUIDE ATTACHED TO MACHINE.

CAUTION! NEVER LIFT THE SCREEN FROM ONE CORNER ONLY, AS TWISTING MAY
RESULT. ALWAYS LIFT EITHER THE FEED OR DISCHARGE END, OR THE ENTIRE
SCREEN.

CAUTION! NEVER LIFT THE SCREEN FROM THE DRIVE BEAM. AVOID BUMPS AND
SHARP BLOWS WHEN HOISTING THE SCREEN.

3 OUTDOOR AND LONG TERM STORAGE

All unpainted surfaces are covered with a protective coating of shell ENSIS Fluid HB, or equivalent, in
the factory, prior to delivery.

3.1 Pre-storage Instructions

When the customer decides to store the screen after delivery or decommissioning, the following
procedures must be carried out.

All unpainted and machined surfaces must be covered with a protective coating of Shell ENSIS Fluid HB
or equivalent.
If the screen cannot be stored away from direct sunlight, remove the polyurethane deck (if applicable)
and store in a shady / airy place. Coat all bolts with protective coating.

CAUTION! NEVER RUN EXCITER(S) WITH OIL CONTAINING CORROSION INHIBITOR.

BEFORE OPERATION, EXCITER(S) MUST BE COMPLETELY
DRAINED AND REFILLED WITH THE CORRECT QUANTITY AND
GRADE OF OIL.

3.2 During Storage Instructions

The following must be carried out while storing the screen.

1. The coating of the unpainted and machined surfaces must be checked on a regular basis, especially
if the screen cannot be stored undercover. Recoat as necessary to prevent rust and corrosion
damage.

2. Inspect paintwork and repair as necessary to avoid rust and corrosion damage.

3.3 Installation Sequence

The instructions below are prepared to accompany the Installation Layout Drawing.

1. The natural frequencies of the support members must be at least equal to the following:
Primary members = 2.5 x operating speed
Secondary members = 1.5 x operating speed

2. Check that bolt location holes on the steelwork are as shown on the Installation Layout Drawing.
Attach mounting plates to steelwork with appropriate size bolts. Plates must be aligned and level.
Pack under the spring mounting plates as required to level within ±1.5 mm, use water level.

3. Check the spring centres are as shown on Installation Layout Drawing and diagonally square, before
installing the screen.
4. Place springs on mounting plates ensuring spigots are located inside the springs.
5. Attach lifting equipment to the screen in accordance with the guidelines under “Lifting”, Section 2.
6. Lift the screen and position in place with care, ensuring spigots on spring brackets are located inside
the springs before lowering to final position.
7. Check the screen clearance to any stationary structure. For tolerances refer to Installation Layout
drawing.
8. Check motor for correct specifications: Refer to Drive Arrangement Drawing.
9. Install motor in position as shown on Installation Layout Drawing.
10. Install drive arrangement (pulleys, belts and jackshaft) as shown on Drive Arrangement Drawing.
Refer to belt drive data in the manual appendix for information on installation and tensioning of
belts.
11. Dimension between exciter(s) coupling and jackshaft coupling must be kept as shown on Installation
Layout Drawing.
12. Install the wiring to drive motor. Start the motor and check direction of rotation is as per installation
layout.
13. Install universal shaft and tighten bolts securely. One end of the universal shaft must be installed
offset such that the shaft is installed at an angle of ±5º. (Refer to Installation Layout for drive
replacement).
Grease the universal shaft spline and bearings, as per the lubrication chart included in the operating
and maintenance manual.

14. Install all guards in place.

CAUTION! ENSURE DRIVE DIRECTION IS CORRECT. ENSURE UNIVERSAL SHAFT IS

FITTED SO THAT THERE IS SUFFICIENT AXIAL FLOAT IN THE
SPLINE.
