RESEARCH REPORT WRITING FORMAT

1. THE PRELIMINARY MATTERS: It should be numbered in small Roman numerals


(i , ii, iii) to distinguish it from the main text.

A) TITLE PAGE: it should be appropriate and attractive

 Title of the thesis /work


 Reseacher’s name
 Date of submitting
 Name of the institution
 Name of the supervisior / guide

When the thesis is published the name of the institution is replace by the
name of the publishers and the place and year of publication

B) ACKNOWLEDGEMENT PAGE: It contains the acknowledgement to all the


people whom the writer is indebted for guidence and assistance.

 to express my heartfelt gratitude to my reseache supervisor.


 I wish to record my thanks to all the members of faculty of the dept.
where the material is gathered.
 indebtedness to my family members

C) PREFACE / FORWORD/ ABSTRACT: It is a brief statement of the scope,

aim and general character of the thesis / research project.

D) TABLE OF CONTENTS:It should contain the chapters, Headings of the

major subdivisions of the chapters and even subdivisions.

E) TABLE OF CASES: Cases should be arranaged in alphabetical order

 name of the report

 name of the court

 the page number of the report on which it is reported


 the page number of the thesis on which that case is referred.
 often full details of the case in the table of cases is avoided.

F) LIST OF TABLES OR FIGURES: Tables and figures used incorporate

B) THE PROBLEM:

 the problem should be in clear cut and logical manner

D) PROCEDURE:

 Must prescribe the techniques and tools used for collecting, organizing
, analysing and interpreting the data.
 the sources of the data tapped, the channels , the nature of data
collected , validity and reliability in clear

E) CONCLUSION:

 Findings and generalisations on the basis of the study


 logically and conviningly
 negative and positive results presented
 recommendations / suggestions for futher study should be mentioned by
the writer.

 to acknowlege the source of quotation, para phrases or idea borrowed by
the writer,

 helps to those interested in developing the problem further

 divided into books, periodicals, reports and bulletins
 author’s last name or surname comes first.

 Letters, questionairesm tests or tools used in collecting data

C)INDEX:

 Topics, cross-index , names of authors in alphabetical
