BASF, are responsible for carrying out procedures appropriate to a specific application.
1. SURFACE PREPARATION:
1.1. The prepared surface must be dry, clean, sound and free of release agents, paint or other
residual coatings.
1.2. Verify the substrate is flat, free of fins or planar irregularities greater than 6.4 mm in 3 m.
1.3. Any unsatisfactory conditions should be reported to the main contractor and corrected
before application of the MasterSeal AWB 661I.
1.4. Substrate shall be of a type acceptable by BASF and installed as per substrate
manufacturer’s instructions and local building code requirements.
2. MIXING:
2.1. Mix MasterSeal AWB 661I with a clean rust-free paddle and drill until thoroughly blended.
Dilution of MasterSeal AWB 661I is not recommended.
3. APPLICATION:
3.1. A 20 mm (3/4) nap roller or stainless steel trowel is recommended to apply
MasterSeal AWB 661I.
3.2. Prewet new roller pads and spin out excess water, this should be done once only to ensure
The new roller pads fully saturate with the MasterSeal AWB 661I.
3.3. Apply the MasterSeal AWB 661I to all sheathing/carrier board joints.
3.4. Immediately install sheathing fabric and center over wet MasterSeal AWB 661I and
complete saturate sheathing fabric with MasterSeal AWB 661I.
3.5. Apply MasterSeal AWB 661I to the remaining sheathing/carrier board substrate at a
minimum wet film thickness of 330 microns.
3.6. Always ensure the roller is fully loaded to ensure an even application thickness of
MasterSeal AWB 661I.

3.7. Once the first coat of MasterSeal AWB 661I has cured, typically 2 to 4 hours visually inspect
to ensure that the surface is blister free and coating is free of voids and pinholes. Carry out
repairs if needed by applying additional MasterSeal AWB 661I such that the
MasterSeal AWB 661I is free of voids pinholes etc.
3.8. After the first coat of MasterSeal AWB 661I has been visually inspected and any needed
repairs have been carried out apply a second coat of MasterSeal AWB 661I at a consistent
minimum wet film thickness of 330 microns.
NOTE: Temperature, humidity, wind and substrate moisture can all affect curing time.

6. METHOD OF TEST
6.1. Placing of test specimen
The test specimen consisted of 6 sections of Enershield I applied over suitable substrate. The dimension
per panel was 1220 x 610mm (l x w) and was butt jointed end-to-end. The total dimensions of the
specimen were 7320 x 610mm (l x w).
Several sections of cement board butt jointed end-to-end with overall dimensions of 7350 x 600 mm (l
x w), were placed at the back of the sample to protect the furnace lid assembly.
6.2.Test Method
The specimen was installed horizontally in the Steiner Tunnel and supported by the ledges. The exposed
coated surface of the specimen (fire side) was exposed to a flaming exposure during the 10 minute test
duration.
Flame spread and density of the smoke are measured and recorded while the results are computed
against the standard calibration materials (cement board and red oak flooring).
6.3.Conditioning
After delivery on 14-Nov-16, the specimen was stored in room temperature for 9 days prior to the test
ranging from 20.2 to 25.8°C and 45 to 55% relative humidity.

8. SUMMARY OF RESULTS
The test specimen has been evaluated in accordance with ASTM E84; Standard Test Method for Surface
Burning Characteristics of Building Materials.
9. CLASSIFICATIONS
The following information is designed to help put these test results into context. Flame Spread Index and
Smoke Developed Index results from an ASTM E84 test are often used by regulatory agencies to approve
materials for various applications. For example, the International Building Code 2015, Section 803.1.1
requires that:
Interior wall and ceiling finish materials shall be classified in accordance with ASTM E84 or UL 723-10th Ed.
2008. Such interior finish materials shall be grouped in the following classes in accordance with their flame
spread and smoke-developed indexes.
Note that the above example is the IBC requirement for interior wall and ceiling finishes only; your
application may be different.
