ELP (Ethical Leader Path) College
ELP College, an institution exclusively responsible for
liberal arts, was launched in March 2012 by integrating
all the related programs separately managed by such
organizations as the Institute of General Education,
Institute of Human Studies, and Social Service Center.
ELP College consists of the Center for Creative
Development, which is responsible for intelligence
education, the Center for Humanity Education, which is
responsible for humanity education, and the Benasaeng
(Give, Share, Life) Center, which is responsible for
spirituality education and the practice of the university’s
motto – respect for human dignity. Liberal arts education
is carried out in an organized manner through these
centers.
ELP (Ethical Leaders rearing Program)
ELP is the CUK’s distinctive program that aims to
foster ethical leaders with creative problem-solving
capabilities. Any freshman and sophomore can apply
for the program. Students who complete more than 70
credits before graduation – including 25 credits or above
in the curriculum sector and 20 credits or above in the
extracurricular sector for humanity & problem-solving
capabilities, respectively – are awarded the certificate by
the President.
Human Studies & Spirituality Education
Through the comprehensive and in-depth analysis on
humanity, we help students not only to find the meaning
of their lives and build sound values but also to create
harmonious relationships with such communities as their
family members, nature, the society, the nation, and the
world.

This is a basic liberal arts program in which students can

covers the basis of analysis and criticism for critical
reading and writing. The latter covers problem-solving
and communication to foster such communication skills

Give, Share, Life
Share-the-Love_ It is a social volunteer course which
is designed to help students experience community life.
Students serve for 30 hours per semester at the social
welfare centers they applied to. They may complete as
many as six such courses before graduation.
Benasaeng (give, share, life)_ It is a mandatory
volunteer course through which students can experience
the spirit of sharing and serving. Benasaeng aims for the
sound self-realization and the recovery of the community
spirit. Students should complete 14 hours of theory class
and 36 hours of social service.

International Volunteer Corps_ CUK international
volunteer corps has served at the third-world countries
every summer since 1997. The corps is composed
of students and faculty members from the Songsin,
Songsim, and Songeui Campus. Our international effort
was recognized and the corps received an award by the
Minister of Health and Welfare in 2013.
EEP (Ethical Entrepreneurs rearing Program)
EEP is a specialized education program that aims to
nurture ethical entrepreneurs who can create new values
and innovation based on the spirit of catholic education
which promotes the respect for humanity and life and the
practice of consideration and service.
EEP offers such curriculum as Human Studies, Benasaeng
service, Media and Law, and Consumption & Ethics and
such extracurricular programs as business startup seminar
& competition in order to provide students with knowledge

TRI LINC model It is an industry–university cooperation model for the practical and sustainable cooperative relations
among students, professors, and companies. Different programs go along through the process of resolving technological
challenges of companies,: operation of technological doctor, joint development of technology between industry and
university, transfer of technology, participation in the sub-councils, operation of co-op professor system, long-term field
training, capstone design, and other job placement activities for prospective graduates.

Specialization on Industry–university cooperation

BioPharm & Digital Contents The CUK is shaping a specialized model for industry–university cooperation based on
bio-pharmacy and digital culture contents. The BP Convergence Center and the DC Convergence Center are the two
facilitative organizations for the specialization.
BP Convergence Center The Center sets up field-oriented industry–university cooperation cluster in the bio-pharmacy
sector. It also takes charge of fostering talents customized for the field and strengthens technological assistance for
companies. Other activities include: developing field-oriented curriculum, operating the sub-councils for industry–
university cooperation, hosting joint symposium with companies/public organizations.
DC Convergence Center Based on the Department of Media Technology & Media Contents, the Center sets up the
infrastructure for industry–university cooperation. It also promotes industry-university cooperation in the humanities &
social science sector by facilitating the ‘diffusion-type platform based on the convergence’, which is designed to widen
industry-university cooperation based on the convergence of humanities & social sciences.

Forging industry–university cooperation network

Family Company A family company has an industry-university cooperation agreement with the CUK and shares human
& material resources together. At present, 621 companies are participating as the CUK’s family companies.
Council for industry–university cooperation The CUK provides solutions to its family companies based on their
difficulties and requirements discussed in the council for industry-university. We share state-of-the-art technologies
and information with the family companies through joint technological development and technological meetings/
exchanges. There are 21 sub-councils including the sub-council for humanities & social science and the sub-council for
specialization. 181 family companies are actively participating in the sub-councils.
Forum for the council for Industry–university cooperation The forum has been held every year since 2013 to share
achievements of the council and discuss practical ways to mutually develop the university, companies, and the local
community through sustainable partnerships.

Fostering talents customized for the field

Capstone design The program is designed to help students build creativity, teamwork, and leadership. Based on
the knowledge from their majors, students perform every step of the process from task design to production and
presentation. Capstone design is originally designed for the engineering sector, but we are expanding the program to the
humanities & social science and arts sector.
Short/long-term internship and field training The programs dispatch students to the companies for a certain period
of time in order to help them understand what kind of employees the company want and develop their hands-on skills.
Students can earn credits in the programs.
Co-op professor Professional executives/managers in the companies/organizations where students work as interns/
trainees are appointed as co-op professors. They closely manage and supervise the dispatched students to ensure that
they get real hands-on experience.

Establishment of the Nicholas Cardinal Chung’s
Pharmacy House The Nicholas Cardinal Chung’s
Pharmacy House (gross floor area: 9,415m2), a five-story
building with lower ground floor one, was established
in 2013. For R&D and clinical tests, the hall is equipped
with various state-of-the-art facilities and instruments
such as classrooms, seminar rooms, faculty offices, a
drugstore for training, rooms for pharmaceutical practice,
laboratories, a joint equipment room, and the general
pharmaceutical laboratory.
Ratio of theory to practice: “best-level in the nation”
Placing emphasis on clinical test education, the college
of pharmacy is maintaining the ratio of theory to practice
education at 5:5. The ratio of professors to students
is 1:2 so that professors can closely care about their
students. A cooperative system between medicine
and pharmacy has been established through affiliated
hospitals.

BK21 Plus Project The College of Pharmacy was
selected in the Brain Korea (BK) 21 Plus Project in
2013. The project team led by Professor Lee Hye-
suk aims to show the direction of development for the
pharmaceutical industry by recreating future medicine
using pharmacomics technology, which is the systematic
pharmaceutical study through the organic convergence
of bioassay–pharmacy–toxicity–pharmacology.
Scholarship to all first-year students The CUK
has made a large-scale investment in the College of
Pharmacy since its foundation. In order to support
outstanding students, we provide all first-year students
with tuition waiver benefit for four years (only if his/her
GPA of the previous semester was 3.7 or above).

knowledge and understanding, they have the chance to
compare Korea with global settings in order to improve their

program
This three-week Korean language program is for students
from Japanese sister universities. The program consists of
various Korean culture activities including: Korean language
class; classes for Korean history, society, and culture;
cultural exchange with Korean students. The program runs
every August.
General Assembly for ASEACCU
(Association of Southeast and East Asian Catholic
Colleges and Universities)
ASEACCU is an international association established by
Catholic universities in Asia to form a network for discussing
current issues and providing quality university education.
The CUK dispatches its selected faculty members and
students to the general assembly every year. In 2013, the
general assembly was held in the CUK campus.

Located on the 1st floor of the International Hub Hall, the lounge is an English-only venue where
all students should speak in English. Furnished with English newspapers, English books, board
games, and DVDs, the lounge is designed to help students learn and practice English through
different ways.
English Café O.B.F._ O.B.F. stands for “Of the student, By the student, For the student”. It is an
English-speaking-only café run by students. You can order menu here only in English.
English Clinic_ This is a program in which English-speaking foreign students serve as tutors.
Tutors in the clinic help Korean students improve their English conversation and interview skills
and proofread their English resume and cover letter.
English Writing Center_ The English Writing Center (EWC), which is run by the International
Language Education Center, is a program that helps students learn writing in English through
customized classes ranging from beginner to advanced level. Students can receive professional
correction and advice from English-speaking lecturers.
TV programs_ Available TV programs are announced every week to provide students with a
variety of entertainment. CNN news, popular US dramas, and animations are broadcasted in the
announced hours.

This program helps students understand their individual
interests, values, and preferences by utilizing various
tests so that they can decide on which career path to
take.
Career exploration camp
The camp assists students in the 1st/2nd year in designing
their college life and career development.
Job courses
We help students successfully find their job through
systematic classes, in which they can explore a career
path and develop capabilities to achieve it.
ACE study groups on job search
In order to improve students’ competitive edge for job,
we provide them with job search information and study
groups in preparation for the whole employment process
ranging from self-analysis to job interview.
Job camp
The camp helps participants understand the changes
in the job market and the strategies of each company’s
management and recruitment process. Training is
available for job application writing and interview skills.

Job mentoring between industry-university
cooperation professors and students
We connect students to industry–university cooperation
professors as mentees and mentors, who have rich
hands-on experience. Mentees can receive tips and
support from mentors throughout the overall job-seeking
process.
Short/long-term field training
We run field training courses in which students can
acquire hands-on knowledge at work. Students can earn
credits in these courses: 1–2 credits for short-term (1-2
months) field training; up to 12–15 credits for long-term
field training (4–5 months).
Job Café
Job café is a place for the job-seeking students. They can
borrow various books on employment, hold a job study
meeting, or try a simulated job interview. Special job
lectures are held on a regular basis. A writing clinic for job
application opens in during the public recruitment period
of major companies.
After-graduation program
We provide a customized job guidance program for
unemployed graduates. This program also helps them
successfully find jobs by enhancing their adaptability to
the organization and professional competitiveness.
Business startup support program
Business startup courses
Customized education in four stages – preparation,
execution, acceleration, and follow-up – is provided to
the students who are interested in starting their own
businesses. Students can get hands-on experience in
the classes in which such professionals as management
& technology consultants, investment specialist, and
corporate CEOs deliver lectures.
Business startup clubs
Students interested in starting a business may create a
club (3 members or above) and apply for the university’s
support. If selected, the club is provided with the space
and grant for their startup.
Business startup & idea contest
Contests are held on a regular basis to encourage students
to start a business by introducing and supporting creative
startup items and competitive technology.
Business startup festival
Future CEOs, startup clubs, and student-run startups
participate in the startup festival. The festival presents
various events - lectures by startup founders, idea
market, club road show, and photo exhibition to promote
student startup, etc.

Library
• T heological Library_ The CUK’s Theological Library,
the matrix for theological research in Korea, contains
vast references on religious studies and therefore is
considered the cradle of Korea’s Catholic research.
The current library building was constructed in 1995.
It is a 3-story building with lower ground floor one. The
gross floor space of the library is 3,306m2. The library
includes a librarian’s room, a data processing room,
reading rooms, reference rooms, study rooms, rare
book collection, regular book rooms, an audiovisual
room, rooms for periodicals & academic journals, a
dissertation room, etc. The library contains a total of
199,914 books, 54% of which are related to religion.
• C entral Library_ With the motto “the cradle for
research and study, a user-friendly library,” the Central
Library supports research and study activities of the
faculty & students. It contains around 600,000 books
and operates various rooms for documentation,
reference, periodicals, and dissertation. Users can
access to books, printed journals, references, and
all kinds of nonbook materials. There are a total of
1,900 seats in the reading rooms in the library and the
International Hub Hall. There are also multipurpose
rooms for group activities - THE CU;BE, media room,
multimedia room and group study rooms. The library
provides support for academic research including
digital academic information, copy of the original/
mutual comparison services, and education on
academic information usage. Various cultural events
are held at the library to serve as the learning and
cultural venue for cultivating creative and talented
students.
• M
 edical Library_ The library is one of the most
specialized libraries; it is the largest and best of its
kind in the nation. The library, located in the Songeui
Hall, possesses around 160,000 books (including
bound journals), 3,200 e-books, more than 11,000
digital journals, and numerous online database and
multimedia materials. The library provides active
support for research and learning activities through
research support service, PubMed searching, EndNote
utilization education, etc. In addition, we do our utmost
efforts to secure various and in-depth information and
materials through exchanges with other prestigious
medical libraries in and outside the country.

international dormitory and experience different cultures.
They also learn mutual respect and the spirit of self-
