ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
I would like to express my special thanks of gratitude to Mrs.
Hemlata U. (Principal, J.N.V. Palghar) and to my mathematics
teacher Mr. D.K.SINGH who gave me this golden opportunity to
do such a wonderful project on the topic MAGIC CIRCLE.

This project would not have been without the guidance Mr. D.K.
Singh sir. His consistent efforts have led this project to reach at
this stage. I am also thankful to my parents for their blessing and
encouragement which helped me in completing the project.

Last but not the least; I would like to acknowledge my computer

teacher Mr. Nitish Ranjan efforts and support.

I am also grateful towards

Mrs. SUNITA RAM,
Mrs. KOMAL JAJU,
for their guidance.

(PGT MATHS) (PRINCIPAL)
INTRODUCTION

Magic Circle is a unique mathematical

project. The beauty of the project lies in its
simplicity in proving various geometrical
and trigonometric theorems without
involving much monetary expenditure.
Magic Circle is the best tool for first
learners to understand geometrical
theorems easily. Moreover, it can be highly
useful to teachers for efficiently explaining
mathematical theorems to their students.
The project is made up of simple materials
like cardboard, rubber bands, rulers,
protractors and nails.
CONSTRUCTION

The Magic Circle can be constructed using

simple steps. Firstly we need to draw a big
circle on the cardboard (say r=17cm).
Secondly, we need to hammer nails on the
circumference of the circle. This step must be
done in the supervision of the mathematics
teacher as it involves the usage of hammers
and nails. The final step involves the use of
rubber bands. We can hook the rubber on the
nails (as per our requirement) giving different
shapes like triangle, square, rectangle etc. to
prove the theorems.
THEOREM 1.
Angles opposite to equal sides of an
isosceles triangle are equal.
THEOREM 2.
If two sides of a triangle are unequal, the
angle opposite to the longer side is larger .
THEOREM 3.
The line segment joining the mid-points of
two sides of a triangle is parallel to the third side.
THEOREM 4.
If the angles subtended by the chords of a
circle at the centre are equal ,then the chords are equal.
THEOREM 5.
The perpendicular from the centre of a
circle to a chord bisects the chord.
THEOREM 6.
Equal chords of a circle are equidistant
from the centre.
THEOREM 7.
The angle subtended by an arc at the
centre is double the angle subtended by it at any point
on the remaining part of the circle.
THEOREM 8.
Angle in same segment of a circle are
equal.
THEOREM 9.
The sum of the either pair of opposite
angles of quadrilateral is 180°.
THEOREM 10.
In a right triangle, the square of the
hypotenuse is equal to the sum of squares of other of
other two sides.
THEOREM 11.
The angle in semicircle is 90°.
THEOREM12.
Perpendicular from the centre bisects the
chord. The perpendicular from centre A cuts the chord
CD at E, the centre point of the chord.
THEOREM 13.
Length of tangents the lengths of the two
tangents from a point to a circle are equal.
