1. INTRODUCTION:
1.1.1 In its maiden year (2008), the event was held at “The Atrium” where
it saw together about 100,000 members of the public over the span
of 11 days. The event also brought together over 150 young leaders
with its theme focusing on energy efficiency, specifically green
transportation, and water conservation.
1.2.1 The event is monthly held in locations where young people hang
out to be able to maximize its prominence and penetrate into the
youth community.
1.2.2 As the word RE-LIVE state its own meaning (i.e.) to rethink the way
you live, it is an opportunity given to us on how to act efficiently to
save our environment and to achieve sustainable development.
1.2.3 The accessibility for the public to this event in the Heartland was
easy and comfortable.
1.2.4 To attract more crowds into the exhibition, we had installed a small
bazaar of not more than 15 stalls. All the stalls were eco-friendly and
sold their products without providing any plastic bags to create
awareness among public.

• To give the public a chance to understand the concept of “re-thinking the way
you live”.
1.4 ACHIEVEMENTS:
We are pleased to share that we have done our best in making the event as eco-
friendly as possible with quite a handful of measures. Therefore, apart from the
exhibition area, one of the key efforts we have put in is to be able to have the trade
fair more eco friendly. Other than off-setting for the event, we hope to weave in slowly
the green messages. However, we were also well aware it would be impossible to
change everything. Instead, we have taken more of incremental steps to slowly
influence of partner.
• Have participating vendors (non-food) to give out reusable bags that we have
specially printed for the event so residents around the area can bring their own
bags
• We have informed the drink stalls as well to provide support for members of the
public who bring their own bottles to fill up the drinks instead of purchasing
from buying disposables cups
• Bringing in of Hybrid Cars
• Having an operator to sell plants
• Putting up information panels (18 of them) around on environmental messages
• Generator powered by biodiesel
Learning from the previous setup, we recognized that being an environmental themed
(despite we didn't put in the word ENVIRONMENT in any of the header), people usually
will detour from our site. The attraction comes if there are things to buy or even food.
Therefore in the new site, we had proposed to have the exhibition just behind the food
sales with a clear carpet walkway towards our area. Also, we specifically put in
additional interactive modules and videos so the public can play around with it.
The response from the public has been generally positive. The whole event drew
about 10,000 members of the public while we have managed to engage about 80-
100 captive audience on the weekdays and about 150 on the weekends.
In fact, we are pleased to share that within the week days, we have students bringing
their friends to the exhibit to get involved in the quiz we have created. And there are
residents nearby as well bring their own neighbours to check it out. They have found
them meaningful and we have been fortunate to have them captured in our
database which we will be following up promptly on.

This event, as mentioned during our introduction, is a youth led initiative event that
aims to educate the public regarding the five aspects of the environment and what
they, as individuals can do to contribute, making Singapore a greener city than it was
before. This section will be divided into three parts;
2.1.2 Volunteers
The volunteers came in shift basis and it was made that at least two of them
were present in the information counter always to guide and help the public in
answering the questionnaire.
At the entrance area, the first thing they see will be the TV which showed the many
different clips relating to the environment. This was to attract the public into
coming into the event.
The table consisting of a brief description of our event and the questionnaires were
near the entrance too.
The information counter was clearly visible to the public when they step in. The
information counter was not only used to discuss with the public information about
the event and the questionnaire but also to display the products made by the
partners. Partners in this event have their own panels located at the perimeter of
the event.

Each of these panels contain the definitions of their own, the current situation
now, the importance of these aspects to our lives and what we, individuals can
do to contribute to a better environment.
Most of the public will arrive during the evening time when there is a screening of
movies/documentaries.
The most highlighted feature of the event was a bicycle which produces energy
by riding it. Some of the devices that it could run were light bulb, small fan and a
radio.
To educate the people, some educational video clips were added in a playlist
and people could browse through it by the computers placed in the entrance.
After finishing the questionnaire, public moves to the information counter to know
the correct answers and collect their gifts.
The volunteers present over the information counter receive them and educate
them about the ecological problems.
There were many gifts given to the public for answering the questionnaire forms.
Some of them were a bookmark, an eco badge, a recycled pen, a lanyard and a
recyclable bag.

When there were fewer crowds, the volunteers will go to the nearby malls, MRT
stations and restaurants to bring the public to this event. During closing time, the
volunteers verify the stock present and plan for the next day of the event

The volunteers also managed to draw the attention of the uninterested public by
getting them in to the exhibition area and answering the questionnaire. Most of
them were eager and interested in knowing the answers and raised issues about the
questionnaire or information banners that they do not understand.
Not only that, there are people that visited the exhibition once and the next time
they were seen at the exhibition, they brought along their friends and parents.
Eco volunteers were also spotted at the exhibition. It was also noticed that people in
groups or pairs are more willing and interested to have a look at the exhibition rather
than people that are alone.

„What have you done to reduce water usage?‟ and „What have you done to
save the environment?‟
3.2.2 Television
Another would be the television that was placed at the entrance of the
exhibition. It managed to draw the public attention and got them in to the
exhibition after watching the videos that are being screened. There were also
people that asked about the movie screening show times too.

ECO products and other recycled products that are being sold attracted the
public to visit the exhibition. The products that were sold in the exhibition are
Many of them came to know the benefits of using these products and
encouraged us to sell more products of this kind.
The highlighted part, is that the public was willing to spend more on these kind of
products.

With the positive areas covered, here are some of the areas to be improved based on
our experience after the two weeks at RE-LIVE Choa Chu Kang:
4.1.1 Sending invitations/ notification to nearing schools to let them know of the
event.
Elaboration: A detailed suggestion will be to let the students from CCA group
who are interested in environment (Green club in primary and secondary
schools) to attend our event. In return, school may offer them CCA points.
4.1.3 Placing one A4 size poster at the notice board situated near the lifts
nearing event date.
Elaboration: The purpose of this is to inform the public about the event
beforehand so that they can visit our exhibition when they are free.
We will place it at the notice board near the lifts because we observed that
the public will read through some of the notifications of the board while
waiting for the lift.
The poster will be designed in such a way that it will attract the public‟s
attention.
4.2 Engagement:
During the event, we have tried to engage the public by having movie screening
which showcased movies and documentaries about the different aspects of the
environment, allowing the public to pen down what they have done to save
water and the environment, and having a TV near the entrance to capture the
public‟s attention.

• Giving free popcorn apart from the bags and badges to public after
completing the survey.
4.3 Layout:
Movie screening can be placed at the side of the entrance instead of the current
layout where the movie screening is placed at the back of the exhibition. The
information counter can also be decorated for attracting the public attention.
Kindly refer to Appendix C for more information.
Since this event is collaborated with the Pasar Malam, we should suggest to the
Pasar Malam stall holders to reduce their usage of plastics.
Our event is to promote conservation, educate the public on the many ways to
help save the environment.
It is thus important if the Pasar Malam do their part too in reducing their plastic
usage so that we can all work towards re-thinking the way we live.

RE-LIVE! @ Heartland (Tampines) is a youth lead initiative event that intends to drive
the public to RE-think and RE-LIVE their existing habits.
To practice this habit is not that difficult at all. There are already existing means to do
so with all the current market products that was readily available.
Youth are the key drivers in this initiation to promote these lifestyle changes. The
ultimate goal of this event was to create awareness among the public.
The eco-partners on the other hand, proved that the public were willing to spend
more to become eco-friendly by purchasing their products.
This project will set the precedence of all future youth lead and environmental events
that actively engage and empowers youth on lifestyle change.
