SCHOOL HISTORY

The Cuenca Educational Institution starts as a Rural Cuenca school in the decade of the
1930s and 1940s; so that then these territories belonged to the department of Bolívar, and with
her it was sought to satisfy the educational needs of the corregimiento. DIEGO GIRALDO, who
also was one of the first teachers, said construction was also to formalize religious acts. Some
teachers who provided their services were: Ofelia Martinez, Carmelina Hermosilla, Oscar
Fernandez, Carmen Anaya among others. For the 70s the community through the community
action board, through the realization of activities, builds the first classroom of material. Two
years later, the second classroom was built and the teacher Noemi Lince and Blanca Gomez
arrived. In the year 1974, with governmental assignments a block is constructed two baths
bathrooms, tinajero, well, elevated tank and lodging for a teacher. He served as director manuel
rojas. In 1977 he was replaced by Zobeida Pérez, Osvaldo Villeras by Jairo Vergara and Ada
Luz Contreras by Teresa De Santis.

In 1984 modest padilla is replaced by Raúl salgado and in 1989 the latter is replaced by
Barney Pérez. This same year he is appointed for a need of service candelaria Bracamonte. In
the year 1992 Jairo Vergara was replaced by Alejandro Garay Pérez (teacher). In 1994, teachers
Stella Guzmán and Pedro Díaz are appointed for the extension of coverage. In 1995 with the
enactment of the General Law of Education (law 115 February 8, 1993). The first institutional
educational project was developed, in which the school was one of the first to present it to the
Municipal Education Secretariat. Through a contest, the school was awarded for having
obtained the highest score in its core of educational development. In the administrative,
pedagogical and organizational assessment, carried out through the national incentive program,
(year 1996) the incentive was $ 10,000,000, invested in the following way: the two-classroom
block was built near the front, the institution, he bought a 20-inch television, a mini-computer,
a VHS, an encyclopedia and a multipurpose furniture.

For the year 1999 to the classrooms of grades 0 and 1 are made improvements: the
classroom of grade 0 is divided into two classrooms, changing structures from wood to metal,
lift platforms and bleachers, metal doors. For the year 2001 the teacher Barney Pérez was
transferred and in his replacement Julio Estrada arrives (O P S departamental), in the year 2002
Luz Estela Guzmán is transferred and in his replacement arrives Ubaldo Pacheco. At the
beginning of the school, the community assigns the name of Nuestra Señora del Carmen in
honor of the patron saint of the town, later because of program changes the institution receives
the name of Nuestra Señora del Carmen Construction School. In 1989 it receives the name of
new School of Cuenca, in 1998 the school receives the name of Rural School Cuenca. In the
year 1990, by means of administrative procedures, the teachers managed to get the school to
carry out the simple snack program (ICBF program), three years later it was raised to the
refreshment category reinforced with a coverage of 60 places, then it was increased to 110
quotas. In 2002, the ICBF changed from a reinforced refreshment mode to a school canteen with
a coverage of 122 places. For the year 2003, due to the need for service, the teachers were
transferred to the educational center: Jorge Nicolás Díaz Ricardo and Luis Cano Herazo, in that
same year, fulfilling one of the goals set in the PEI, such as the extension of coverage and
continuity of basic education. This achievement was due to the joint effort of the teachers, Core
Director, students, parents and the community in general; He was in charge of the Teresa de
Santis Educational Center as a teaching director. Due to the association that took place between
the different schools (La Costera, Palomar, Santo Domingo Vidal, La Balsa and Cuenca), by
resolution 1525 of June 10, 2003, by its own decision, it resigned from the position of Director
in the month of July. , being replaced by Hernando de Jesús Gamboa Nieto, Administrative
Director. The sixth grade worked in the afternoon, attended by teachers in the morning, paid
with overtime, and was endorsed by the Las Flores Educational Institution. In 2004, the
Secretary of Departmental Education, after joint efforts made by the Director, Teachers and
Director of Nucleus, authorizes the opening of Seventh and Seventh grades, attended by the
same teachers. In March, Director Hernando Gamboa Nieto was transferred to the Caño Prieto
Educational Center, and Juan Ortiz was replaced as Director in his place. For the month of April,
the teachers arrive: Marciana Julia Pérez Paternina and Edinson Cárdenas Pardo.

In September there is a new manager relocation: Juan Ortiz is relocated to Caño Prieto
and Hernando Gamboa Nieto returns to Cuenca. Teachers continue to arrive at Cuenca
Educational Center, in their order Olga Galván Gómez (2004) and Luis Felipe Barbarán (2005)
and teachers Pedro Ramón Baños Martelo, Julio Estrada Mercado, Luis Felipe Barbaran, Olga
Galván Gómez, Adola Machado Peñate, after the first teachers' contest were declared. Teachers
Eddie Alberto Rodríguez Caraballo, Catherine Arrieta Jaraba, Yaneris Salgado Baleta, Marcos
González Barrios, José Alfonso Granados López, Mirna Luz Mesa Hernández, William
Ezquivel Morón, Humberto Medrano, Carmen Villalba Salas, Luz Paola Pereira Carmona,
completed thus the payroll of the teachers who work in the Cuenca Educational Institution. In
2008, professor William Esquivel was transferred and in his replacement they arrive the teachers
Tácito Paternina and Yolima de la Espriella of the Educational Institution Las Flores. In 2008
our educational establishment became an EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTION, through Decree
1594 of June 10 of 2008, finally approving the desired Academic Media to fulfill one of the
objectives of our PEI: Offer all levels of Education, from Preschool to Academic Media. For the
first time the Educational Institution Cuenca faces the ICFES tests, for which it already has
endorsement with 24 students ready to drop the first bachilleres, pride of a process that has led
the Graduate HERNANDO GAMBOA NIETO with the whole group of collaborating teachers
, among which stand out the graduates EDDIE RODRIGUEZ CARABALLO, MARCOS
TULIO BARRIOS GONZALEZ and YOLIMA DE LA ESPRIELLA.

On the other hand, the cultural and sporting events have been highlighted and important
in our Institution, since for the year 2006 the First Cultural and Sports Week was held, led by
the teacher Edie Alberto Rodríguez Caraballo, an event that transcended and fulfilled the
proposed objectives. Due to this, this process was continued and has continued to be developed
year after year. On October 15, 2008 the ICFES results were received from the first class, in
which the group of students had an average of 42.50 points, of which the scores of students
Naidrith Macea Alvarez stood out with 49.20 points. , Roberto Carlos Argumedo González with
49.10 points and Jesus Daniel Ospino with 47.70 points. The Institution was located at the Bajo
level, as well as the entire San Marcos region.

In 2009, in the Directorate of Hernando Gamboa Nieto and a group of teachers who care
about the Institution and the Cuenca community: Lic. Marcos Barrios, Lic. Yolima de la
Espriella, Lic. Eddie Rodríguez, Lic. Tácito Paternina, Lic. Yaudis Villamizar, Lic. Dora Tirado
and Lic. Luz De la Ossa request the Departmental Secretariat of Education through a well-
founded project, the endorsement for the opening of the night shift for the education of young
adults and adults in Extra-age and said project is approved and taken to its execution. On March
9, 2009, the classes for the night shift began with a student population of 70 students, distributed
in cycles I: First, Second and Third Grade Primary Years (14 students), cycle III: Sixth and
Seventh Grades of Basic Secondary (21 students) and cycle IV: Eighth and Ninth Grades of
Secondary School (26 students). Currently, the V cycle was opened and it is expected that in
2010 the first graduates of night school will graduate.

On the other hand, the results of the 2009 ICFES tests exceeded the expected
expectations, where 21 students led the process and today our Institution was placed in the
Middle Level, thanks to the teachers who led the process of preparing the students: Yolima De
la Espriella (Mathematics and Physics), Marco Tulio Barrios (biology and chemistry, Edie
Rodríguez (language), Tacitus Paternina (English) and Yaudis Villamizar (social and
philosophy), standing out the student scores Edwin Molina Jorge (49, 50), Yorlidis Villalba
(49.10), Rodolfo Monterroza (48.70), among others.

In 2013, the indigenous ethno-educator teachers Walber Basilio Cruz arrived to replace
Marco Tulio Barrios in the area of natural sciences and the teacher Jorge Carlos Villadiego in
replacement of the teacher Pedro Díaz Fortich in the area of physical education and the teacher
Benjamín Álvarez arrived in replacement of Esther Sierra in primary school. Between 2014 and
2015 the mego school was built by the National Adaptation Fund, expanding the main
headquarters and unifying all the levels and degrees offered by the institution in one place. This
main headquarters consists of 12 classrooms 2 laboratories a computer classroom. an arts room,
a multiple classroom, kitchen, nursing, administrative unit, health units and a multiple court.

In 2017 there is the closing of the Nocturna day, due to the low demand of students. This
year the teachers Yaudis Villamizar and Estith Sotelo are transferred and with them the ethno-
educator teacher Lina Ruiz Ospino arrives and at the end of this year they name the teacher
