As we celebrate Women’s Month, | wish all women within and outside the sport and recreation sectors, a fulfilling month that will hopefully kickstart better things for them and their fellow citizens. SASRECON as it were, is the primary sport science conference in South Africa and it endeavours to bridge the gap between science and practice, while also acting as a forum for the academic, sport science and research community to present and share results of recent projects. 1O-AUG-2210 16:52 FROM DEPUTY MINISTER TO 12489061 P0387 3 We must, as delegates from various sectors, ensure that throughout the conference, we provide an arena where all stakeholders of sport, among them, academics, sports scientists, sports medicine professionals, national federations, sports development Coordinators, coaches, provincial academies and Government, can participate as a single body. Over the years, science conferences have always been accused of being too academic and beyond the reach of ordinary Joe and Jolene. We have this year, tried to demystify the scientific world to people/who are expected to make sense of scientific declarations in their day-to-day lives. To this effect, we have among us, about 70 Coaches who work with our athletes at implementation level. We depend on these Coaches, to create synergy between sport Science, recreation, and physical education,
