Professional Development Plan

(What do YOU need to work on in order to grow professionally?)

- Organizing the time for each part of the lesson

- Behaviour management

1. Choose and describe an aspect from a teaching competency that you need to work on (Goal)
My aims for this semester is to use differentiation - Good time management
during the classroom lesson and activities.
2. Describe what you will do to help achieve your goal (Strategies Used)
The strategies that I can use to achieve my goals: for the differentiation is to have
3 types of activities (low-medium- high) while to manage the time I could use
timer.
3. Describe how you can tell if you’re achieving your goal (Evidence)
The children for each level can solve the activity that I give him\her in enough
time and in the right way - spend enough time for each section as I planned.
Grade Level: Subject: Learning Outcome (ADEC/MOE code and words):
Students will learn which objects sink or float.
Kindergarten-KG2\H Science

Resources (what materials/equipment will you and  Preparation (what do you need to make or check before
the students use? Be specific) class?)

 Small plastic tubs  Create work stations for groups to test the
buoyancy of objects. These stations should be
 Water fairly waterproof, with plenty of towels or paper
 A variety of objects that will both sink and float towels around to clean up spills.
in water, like corks, metal rings, paper scraps, There should be a tub filled with water and various
feathers, buttons, and marbles. objects that both sink and float at each station
 Paper towels Key vocabulary
 Sink or Float? worksheet
 sink
 Buoyancy worksheet
 float
Introduction (warmer activity + teacher introduction/demonstration of small group activities)

 Gather students in a group and tell them that they will be learning about sinking and
floating.
 Show them a tub filled with water and the objects that will be tested.
Time: 15 min

 Define sink as the action of an object when it becomes submerged in a liquid.

Define float as the action of an object when it sits on the surface of a liquid.
Whole

Active Engagement (group working with the teacher)

 Have students guess which objects will sink and which will float.
 Tell students that lighter objects are more likely to stay on the surface of the water and
heavier objects are more likely to sink to the bottom of the tub.
 Drop a couple objects into the water to show students how you would like them to place
the objects, avoiding splashing, and showing them what you are looking for to determine
whether the object floats or sinks.
 Make a "float" and a "sink" pile and put your objects in their corresponding pile.

Independent Experience (small group activity 1)

 Split your class into groups, one for each work station.
 Have students test one object at a time, placing them into their own "float" and "sink" piles
as they finish.
 As groups finish, go around and check their "sink" and "float" piles for correctness.
 Ask students to clean up any spills that may have happened, then to return to their seats.

Independent Experience(small group activity 2)

 Hand out the Sink or Float? and Buoyancy worksheets.

 Read out the definition of buoyancy from the Buoyancy worksheet.
 Ask students if they have any questions.
 Rotate around the classroom and assist struggling students.
Time: 15 min

 Have students turn in their worksheets when done.

Small
Independent Experience(small group activity 3)

 Gather students into a group.

 Ask students if they were surprised by any of their results.
15 min

 Review the concept of sink and float with them.

 Read a book about sink and float if you feel your class needs more practice with the
Closing

concept.
Time:

Assessment

 Review students' "float" and "sink" piles as well as their worksheets to assess their levels of understanding.
