Urinary Tract Infections (UTI):

Causes:
Urinary tract infections are mainly caused by microbes (mainly bacteria). The
microbes take over the body’s defenses in the urinary tract. The main bacteria
that causes urinary tract infections is called Escherichia coli (E. coli), however,
chlamydia and mycoplasma bacteria can also cause urinary tract infections.
Women are at a higher risk than men at contracting a urinary tract infection.

Effects/Symptoms:
• frequent urge to urinate
• cloudy, bloody, or strong-smelling urine
• burning sensation when urinating
• nausea and vomiting
• muscle aches and abdominal pains
Urinary tract infections can also cause infections of the bladder or kidney.
Some infections can even leave permanent damage or be harmful to pregnant
women. However, most urinary tract infections are not serious and are easy
to treat.
