buried in despair and hopelessness while
still alive. Poverty eats up our resolve
that a new day is coming. It is then so
easy for us to believe that “our world”
like “Humpty Dumpty…” will fall apart
and “can never be put together again!”

 Catechists’ Journey

ctober 24, 2018 . We left Iloilo City 7:30 a.m.,
for our pilgrimage. We arrived Manila safely.
Ching and I was met by our student, Engr. Jun
Estelendres, a graduate of Pius XII Institute at the airport
and embraces us warmly greeting us happy birthday, at the
same time handing us an amount for our “baon”. It was a
brief meeting ‘cause the van was already waiting for us.
We started our journey directly to Manaog immersed in
the presence of our Lord and Mama Mary. Pat unfortunately
got sea sick so she stayed quiet and asleep during the long
trip. She had not even eaten her breakfast afraid of letting
it out in the van.
In parallel with Our Lord’s suffering to Calvary, where
He fall several times - Pat’s seasickness was our “first fall”.
Because of our concern for her, we all suffer with her as we
suffer with Jesus. Still we continue
our journey to Manaoag, where
Fr. Eric immediately celebrated
the Eucharist. We participated
in the celebration of the Paschal
Mystery through the Eucharist, His
resurrection. After the Mass, we
had a picture taking with Fr. Eric
for a souvenir, followed by other
pilgrims too. Then we proceeded to
Baguio. While on travel we prayed
the Holy Rosary and sung all the
Marian songs in the van. We sing
joyfully feeling the presence of Our
Lady of Candles.
October 25 we prayed first
the Holy Rosary and held a faith
sharing. Each one of us shared our
experiences during the journey,
seeing the wonders of our Lord’s
creation. Our responses in faith
sharing came out naturally - each
one was concerned with one
another, responsible for any task
on hand. We were able to discover
more ourselves. In being open we
become closer as one. Because
of this we realize that in unity there is strength. As
catechists, our experiences with one another enhance in us
a commitment and deep responsibility to the mission our
Lord called us for. Mrs. Aquilo emphasized that a catechist
is not just the same as any academic teachers teaching their
own field of expertise. Catechist’s subject matter is God –
the Word of God and this is a very delicate subject and a big
responsibility before God. According to Fr. Eric, catechists
are very important in the parish because they help the
priest in their pastoral ministry. Since they cannot reach
the schools and barangays in their parish to spread the
Gospel, the catechist are the ones teaching catechism.
October 26, was our schedule to go around Baguio.
While we were on the way, our van stopped because of the

traffic and many policemen spread around. We wondered
why, what’s the occasion, are they waiting for some VIP?
All of a sudden Imelda shouted “Ah they’re waiting for
Imelda, stop abruptly but continued to say, “Imelda Solas!”
All of us laughed. Ching fall from her seat laughing but
later on complained she can’t breathe. Some massage her,
some kept fanning her, each one extending any kind of
help to her. We were all alarmed. It’s seems serious. Fr.
Eric asked her if she wanted to be brought to the hospital.
She said “yes” so we proceeded, with God’s blessing, we
were in front of Baguio General Hospital. We brought her
in for immediate remedy where she was applied first aid,
and given oxygen. That was our 2nd fall in parallel with
Jesus’ fall the second time because of exhaustion. After
Ching felt better we continued our journey to the PMA.
Fortunately, there was a formation
of the cadets. We went down
the van, Ching remained. There
again, we were so excited to see
the PMAers on formation. Some
of us took pictures of the cadets,
some onlookers just watched.
Imelda rushed to catch up with
the cadets to take picture, but
unexpectedly she felt down. The
couple immediately helped her up
and Mildred came running to help
also. That was our 3rd fall. The
rushing in and concern to help
made us ‘the more closer with each
other and prayerful’. No matter
what obstructions we met on the
way we continued and prayed
intensely asking our Lord Jesus to
keep us safe.
We reached our boarding
house and immediately some took
the initiative to cook for supper.
After supper we prayed the Holy
Rosary. The next day we were
scheduled to be back to Iloilo. We
travelled a long way from Baguio
down to Manila. Thank God we
reached Fairview and rested at the residence of Mr. & Mrs.
Amon Ladeza. the cousin of Letty, who accommodated us
generously.
The next morning Fr. Eric celebrated the Mass at the
chapel at Fairview including the intention for thanksgiving
of the family Ladeza for their son, Leo Jhon for having
passed the board exam in CPA. We had a faith sharing
within the Mass. Everybody had the chance to share what is
in their hearts. Others said this was the first time they were
together, bonded closely in unity, no more “pagbinahin-
bahinay”, that in being together they got to know each
other better, developed strong relationship deeply, in love,
concern and understanding.
The next itinerary was Mall of Asia (MOA). We have to be there early so that
we can go around before catching the 3:00 p.m. schedule for NAIA. But while we
were on the way, Ching was again short of breath. We noticed that she was not at
ease, having a difficulty in breathing. That was our 4th fall. As we proceeded, with
God’s blessing, we were already in front of Manila Doctors Hospital. We stopped
and had her admitted. She was placed at the Emergency Room. She stayed long
at the ER, until it’s almost time for Fr. Eric and our fellow catechists to leave.
The two of us, senior citizens, were left in the hospital. I was given papers
to be signed, contract and consent. Oh my! What a big responsibility. I told
Ching to call Jun, our student who met us upon our arrival. With God’s blessing
again, Jun and his wife came over. Jun arranged everything for Chings admission
to CCU. I had not eaten my lunch yet and it was already late in the afternoon.
Jun, his wife and I, waited outside the CCU until everything was arranged. Then
Jun brought me to their home at Marikina to rest. The next day we went to the
hospital. Luckily Shane, her nurse granddaughter, was already there. She went
out to meet us. Then Jun suggested that she too have to rest, so both of us went
with Jun at their home in Marikina. We had a nice supper at the Riverside. The
next morning, Shane and I went back to the hospital. Ching had to be transferred
already to a private room. Somehow, it lessens our anxiety. Parish

Every now and then Shane has to check her pulse rate. The doctors and nurses Resident Priest
went to our room to check her physical condition, clean her wound and a group
from 911. She was lifted from the bed to stretcher brought to the ambulance
with oxygen for her safe travel. That was the first time I rode an ambulance with

The Presentation of Mary in the Temple
O
n the feast of the Presentation of the Virgin Mary, we celebrate the fact that Our Lady’s parents brought her to the
Temple at the age of three and handed her over to live there for a long period as a consecrated virgin where she might
exclusively contemplate God.
There is a special beauty to this feast since it highlights the fact that Our Lady was chosen even before time began. She
is called the root of Jesse (Isaiah, 11:1) from which Our Lord Jesus Christ would be born.
She is introduced to the synagogue, the institution in charge of keeping this promise. Thus, the synagogue receives Our
Lady as a first step. In this act, the hopes of ages would soon be fulfilled.
Our Lady, a supremely holy soul, is received in the Temple and entered into the service of God.
Despite the corruption of the nation of Israel and the transformation of the
Temple into a den of the Pharisees, an incomparable light appeared: the sanctity of
Our Lady.
Unknowingly, Our Lady began to prepare herself to become the Mother of Our
Lord Jesus Christ. In an atmosphere of grace in the Temple, she was set apart from
everyone in order to serve God.
She increased her love of God until she formed the ardent desire for the imminent
coming of the Messiah and asked God if she might have the honor to be the servant
of His Mother.
She did not know that she was the one chosen for this honor. That is why she
was perplexed when the Archangel Gabriel greeted her to ask her permission for the
Incarnation.
Our Lady’s magnificent preparation to be the Mother of Jesus Christ began with
her Presentation in the Temple, a feast the Church celebrates on November 21.
It is fitting that we ask Our Lady to prepare us with the best of Catholic doctrine
to serve God by serving her.
We should present ourselves before Our Lady, asking her to assist us in taking
up the task of our sanctification, as the Holy Ghost did with her in the Temple of
Jerusalem.

utod. Prayer intensyon para sa iya bana nga nagsakit ang iya
tuhod sa  barko, wala sang Doctor kag wala sang bulong para
makuha ang sakit sini hasta nga nagbanog na ini, malapit
sa isa ka bulan ang iya pag- agwanta sang sakit. Tungod  sa
barko sia naga-obra indi madali ang pagpauli kon wala sang
mabulos. Tungod sa pag tuo sang aton  utod,  naghimo sang  ginpadala nila si Pedro kag si Juan sa ila. Sang pag-abot
paagi ang Dios para makapauli sia dayon. Pag-abot sa Manila
ginpaidalom sia sa mga laboratory test MRI , X-RAY  kag
iban pa. Salamat sa Dios tungod normal man ang resulta sang
labtest. Kag nakapauli sang malipayon diri sa Iloilo. Sa amon
pagpanglakon bilang Magagmay nga Kristianong Katilingban
madamo sang mga pagtilaw nga naga-abot sa amon kabuhi.

1. The Origin of Confirmation (Acts 8:14-17)
2. How is it administered?
