REPORT ON THE 2015 NATIONAL DISASTER CONSCIOUSNESS MONTH

July 15 marks the National Disaster consciousness month. Efforts of all concerned agencies
toward securing the welfare of the people are solidified through Executive Order No. 137, series of
1999.
This year’s theme is “Pamilya at Pamayanang Handa, Katuwang sa Pag-unlad ng Bansa.”

The government is very much concerned on the occurrence of calamities such as typhoon, flood,
earthquake, tornado, landslide, volcanic eruption, tsunami and drought. The Disaster Risk Reduction
and Management Council (LORRMC) in coordination with the local government recognized the value
of setting aside a designated period for people to focus their attention on the need to prepare for natural
disasters.

During this month, all schools and offices are encouraged to coordinate with their local
LORRMC offices to conduct multi-hazard drills to mark the significance of the occasion.
As part of the celebration, the activities conducted are as follows:
a. display of streamers indicating this year’s theme
b. conduct of orientation on the different health hazard/hazards mapping.
c. devoting of time for class discussion on preparedness

It is expected that the above-mentioned exercises would help prepare the pupils and the
community for disasters.
