AROUND THE WORLD IN 15 DAYS.

(Summary for the CLASS


Summer Camp programme)

DAY 1. WELCOME!

Today we have no specific linguistic content. English is not the most important
thing today. Our main goal is to ensure that the participants feel comfortable in
our camp, since this is the first step to begin a friendship and to break the ice.
We will use common English expressions and simple phrases to help them with
their English speaking. We use this moment to work on the basic rules to follow
while staying at the Camp. These rules will be collected in several posters
(made by the participants) which will decorate the Camp area.

DAY 2. GETTING TO KNOW.

Today we have to check the participants English level in order to make groups
according to it. We’ll check it using a “one-to-one” conversation.

We’ll also work with simple structures to express their own interests and
hobbies.

Expectation games. What to expect of the camp?

Each group will work on their own expectations about the Camp. What do they
expect of it, how do they want to collaborate… There will be a moderated and
open debate guided by teachers. We will also provide the kids with easy tips to
make their speaking easier and more effective, such as:

DAY 3. THE ENGLISH SPEAKING COUNTRIES.

ACTIVITIES:

Where is English an official language?


Place to visit.
Advertise tourist brochure. Defending the place game.

We’ll work using the internet in order to find information about the English
speaking countries. We have to search for information about its culture,
focusing on a specific area to work on our own “tourist guide”, creating our own
brochure which will be presented to the rest of participants, working with
Question Words (WHY have we chosen this destination?, WHAT do I like
most?, etc…)
DAYS 4 and 5. LEISURE TIME.

These days are aimed towards entertainment and sports in the same areas
we’ve worked the previous day with the brochures.

Linguistic content (depending on each level):

Likes and dislikes practice.

Prepositions of place.

English verbal tenses.

Modal verbs.

ACTIVITIES:

Entertainment questionnaire.
Role play of a scene in theatre.
Who and what sport.
Understanding the song.
What I like and don’t like.
DAY 6. FOOD AND DRINKS. RESTAURANTS TO GO!

Today we learn about typical food in the English speaking countries we’ve been
working on. (Information sources: internet and foreign printed materials
including newspapers and magazines).

Linguistic content (depending on each level):

Question Words.

Countable and uncountable nouns (much/many).

Conditional sentences.

ACTIVITIES:

Shopping (role play).


Blogmenu in pairs.
Timetables to eat.

DAY 7. EXTREMENIAN STUDENTS AROUND THE GLOBE.

After working on English speaking countries, the participants will work on a


video project based on the TV programme “Españoles por el mundo” that we’ll
call “Extremeños por el mundo”. They will briefly describe themselves and
provide some general information about the excursion they will do the next days
(description activities).

ACTIVITIES:

Passport.
Tv Show “Extremenian students around the globe”.
Comparing activities.
DAY 8. QUIZ AND LEARN ABOUT YOUR TRIPS.

It’s time to work on the places we’ve recently visited. We’ll play a game similar
to Trivial in which participants will have to answer questions about what they’ve
learnt.

Linguistic content (depending on each level):

Past expressions using different verbal tenses.

Question Words.

ACTIVITIES:

Trip quiz.
Asking for help.

DAY 9. WHAT TO DO...? STUDY OR WORK.

We also want to dedicate a part of our time to try to help the participants to
search for opportunities for their future, and explore and learn about different
options to study and work abroad.

Linguistic content (depending on each level):

Conditional sentences.

Future expressions.

Question Words.

ACTIVITIES:

Interviews. (Role play).


Options search. Camp, school or job. ( Looking for information).
Debate: When and where?
Jobs: (What would you be…?)
DAY 10. THE REAL LIFE.

We’ll have to think about different real-life situations and to figure out how the
participants might react to them.

We’ll record a video of the participants performing short plays about these real-
life situations. These videos will be shown in a special evening activity called
“The night of the Oscars”.

Some examples of these situations: Booking a flight, talking to hotel


receptionist, going to the doctor, exchanging money…

We’ll work on speaking and listenig skills applied to these specific situations, so
that the students learn how to use expressions in an useful way.

ACTIVITIES:

Real simulated scripts.


Drama skills.
Short sketches in video.

DAY 11. Radio and newspaper.

We’ll make a radio programme and a newspaper where the participants can
show all what we’ve been working on and what they’ve learnt.

We’ll help the students to express themselves with expressions and words used
commonly in English and also with the Reported speech if possible (depending
on the level of the group).

DÍA 12. SAYING GOODBYE.

As we did at the beginning, today we have to test the English level of the
participants (listening and speaking) in order to see if they have improved it
compared to the first day of the Camp.

We’ll also have an evaluation activity (debating activity). The participants will
work in groups and will talk about what they’ve experienced during the Camp.
They will be able to practice Comparative and Superlative Adjectives (the best
day, the funniest activity, etcetera…) to express their feelings and opinions.
