A. Description of the class


School: UQROO (Universidad de Quintana Roo)
Topic:
Unit: 1
Level: Beginners
Time: 2 hours on Monday, Wednesday and one hour on Friday.
Students’ age: 18 students between the ages of 18-23.
Number of students: 9 girls and 8 boys (all university students).
Students’ description: The students are generally enthusiastic and motivated to learn.
They love teamwork and using tangible and colorful material related to the topic. They
have completed approximately 120 hours of English. The students are wailing to
participate in class
Methods: Cooperative and Communicative Language Learning, Task-Based Content.

Interactions:
 Teacher-students (checking answers, providing basic instructions and
commands).
 Student-student (groups of four).
 Student-class (sharing information)
Skills that will be developed:
 Listening (to express in English what their families usually do during some
festivities in the year).
 Speaking (in order to comprehend and match spelling words).

B. Recent work

 Listening work (listening to a short description of a child’s activity).


 Reviewing the senses that people uses in different activities (smelling,
touching, taste, etc.)
 Speaking and writing about what kind of senses they use in different
scholar activities.

C. Objectives (for details see ‘Contents’ below)

Teacher’s objective:
a) To speak about what children know about some word origins in order to
introduce the topic and promote reading comprehension in order to match
some corresponding words.
b) To review vocabulary learned on previous lessons and engage students
into the next topic by joining some pictures of celebrations with their
corresponding month.
c) To elicit information about special celebrations that the children’s families
have in each month.
d) To create a good leaning environment.
e) To improve the way I give instructions and my voice volume.

Student’s objectives: At the end of the class, students will be able to:
1. Talk about the origins of some word in English
2. Read about the origin of the name of days and special celebrations in the USA
3. Speak and write about special celebrations (holidays, special days or regular
events) that their families have each month.

D. Contents:
Objective 1: Talk about the origins of some word in English (Estimates time: 10 minutes)
Context: Pre-Activity

Presentation: Creating a good environment, activating background knowledge and
introducing new vocabulary

Objective 2: Read about the origin of the name of days and special celebrations
in the USA. (Estimates time: 15 minutes)

Practice: Reading to get the main idea and specific information and
giving information to relate it to their own experience in their country.
