My name is Yolanda Maza, I was born in Lambayeque on December 31, 1996.

I lived until I was 14 years old in Lambayeque with my parents and the following
year I came to the city of ilo, I finished secondary school in the "Miguel Grau
Seminario" school.

engineering career.

When I go on vacation I travel to Lambayeque to visit my family because I miss

that place where I spend my childhood, because during the year I work and study.

For now I work in a shoe store and I feel happy with the work environment,
because I consider myself a responsible, punctual and honest person.

ADVENTUROUS RACE

It’s a team sport. It includes mountain climbing, biking, boating, and trail running.
It has lots of special mystery events- like climbing over a 5 meter wall, and
carrying a team member for 3 kilometers. What is it?

“The coolest sport I’ve ever done, “says 31 year old Bryan Martin. He recently
finished the Hawaii Adventure Race, with his team the Outsiders.

“Although everyone on our team bikes and runs every day, it was a great
challenge.” His team finished fifth out of more than two hundred teams in the race.

Adventure racing is a new sport that started a few years ago. In it teams of four
people race non- stop across long distances in difficult environments, 24 hours a
day. There are men’s women’s and mixed teams. Some adventure races are just
one day, but others are much longer.

In the Eco- challenge, one of the most famous races, teams must travel 500 km
i9n ten days. They travel by running, climbing ropes, kayaking, mountain biking
and horseback riding. Every year, the Eco-Challenge is held in a different country
and environment, like the jungles of Malaysia, the desert of Morocco, or the
mountains of Canada.

Speed and stamina are very important for adventures races, but there’s one more
unusual thing about the sport . To win the race, all team members must finish
together. If one person quits, the team is out of the race. “You have to help each
other, and you really learn to work together.” Says Bryan Martin. “I enjoy that
most of all”.

Kenya’s Greenbelt Movement

Kenya’s greenbelt movement started in
1977, when a woman named Wangari
Maathai decided to help save the forest
in Kenya. In Kenya, many people cut
down trees because they need wood to
burn to for cooking and heating. But
when all the trees are cut down, the
forest doesn’t grow back.
Then people have no more wood.
Eventually, if no trees are replanted, the planted. Twelve other African countries
area becomes desert. Wangari started
growing and selling young trees in her
garden for people to plant in places when
they cut down trees. Soon, other women
became involved and began to grow trees
to sell, too.
Today in Kenya there are more than
1,500 people selling young trees, and
more than 10 million trees have been
have started greenbelt projects like
Kenya’s.
