CONSTITUTION
The noun constitution is from Latin, from constitutus "set up, established" plus the
suffix -ion- "act, state, or condition."
Fundamental and entrenched rules governing the conduct of an organization or nation state,
and establishing its concept, character, and structure. It is usually a short document, general
in nature and embodying the aspirations and values of its writers and subjects.
The basic principles and laws of a nation, state, or social group that determine the powers
and duties of the government and guarantee certain rights to the people in it.
The basic, fundamental law of a state which sets out how that state will be organized and the
powers and authorities of government between different political units and citizens.
The basic law or laws of a nation or a state which sets out how that state will be organized
by deciding the powers and authorities of government between different political units, and
by stating the basic law-making and structural principles of society.
The primary contract or law by which the government of a nation or state is set out and
organized. The constitution is colloquially referred to as the "#1 law of the land"; to which
all of government, citizens, corporate persons and other laws must defer in the event of any
conflict.
A constitution has been defined as a body of rules established to regulate the system of
government within a state. The reason for drafting a codified constitution is usually
associated with the time in which a particular State is formed or associated with a major
change that has taken place at national level.
