The Troposphere is where weather occurs, and extends out to about 4-10 miles.
The Stratosphere is the second lowest layer of Earth’s atmosphere. The Ozone layer is found in
the Stratosphere. The Stratosphere extends at about 30-35 miles above from the Earth’s
surface. The mesosphere is where most meteors burn upon entry and it reaches up to 50 miles
from the Earth’s surface. The Thermosphere has very thin air. And it gets extremely hot. The
Exosphere goes up to 6200 miles from the Earth’s surface.
Where the Ozone layer is located, and why it’s important:
The Ozone layer is found in the Stratosphere. The Ozone layer helps absorb harmful UV rays
from the sun.
Where the Ionosphere is located, and its purpose
The Ionosphere is located in the lower part of the Thermosphere. The Ions in the Ionosphere
help to transmit Radio Waves.
Answers to questions:
1. Which layer is the thickest?
The troposphere is the first layer above the surface and contains half of the Earth's atmosphere.
2. Which layer is the coldest?
In the Thermosphere, the air is thin, meaning that there are fewer air molecules.
3. Which layer is the hottest?
The thermosphere is the hottest layer in the atmosphere.
4. Which layer do humans live in?
Humans live in the troposphere.
