Anzac Day

Anzac Day is on April 25 and is a national holiday in Australia. It is a day for

remembering the people who were killed or served in war.

ANZAC comes from the first letters of the Australian and New Zealand Army Corp.

The Anzacs landed in Gallipoli, Turkey on April 25, 1915 but they failed to defeat the
Turks. They left Turkey in December 1915.

Anzac Day first became a day to remember the 8,587 killed and 19,367 wounded in
Gallipoli. Now it has become a day to honour all men and women who died or served
in wars for Australia.
