● Iran’s Parliament approved a Bill to counter terrorist
financing. It was strongly opposed by conservatives but
seen as vital to salvaging the nuclear deal with European
and Asian partners.
● The objective of the Bill is to bring Iran’s laws in line with
international standards and allow it to join the UN
Terrorism Financing Convention.
● The Bill, that was put forward by Iran’s government, is a
bid to meet demands by the international ​Financial Action
Task Force​​ (FATF).
● FATF urged Iran to tighten its laws against money
laundering and terror financing.
● The issue has become particularly pressing since the United
States walked out of the 2015 nuclear deal with Iran earlier
this year and began imposing sanctions.

China to sell 48 high end armed drones to Pakistan 
Pakistan 

● China is to sell 48 high-end armed drones to Pakistan. This


will be the largest deal of its kind.
● The cost of the major defence deal hasn’t been revealed
yet. Wing Loong II is a high-end reconnaissance, strike and
multi-role endurance unmanned aerial system, capable of
being fitted with air-to-surface weapons.
● This type of drone is roughly equivalent to the American
MQ-9​​ Reaper drone.
● The drones will also be jointly manufactured by China and
Pakistan.
● Last year, China reportedly sold to countries like the UAE
and Egypt the Wing Loong II at an estimated $1 million per
unit.
● Till now China is the largest weapon supplier to its
all-weather ally Pakistan Army. Both countries also jointly
manufacture JF-Thunder a single engine multi-role combat
aircraft.

presidential election.
● In her political career, she was the Governor of South
Carolina. She was elected as the State’s first woman
Governor in 2010.
● She was offered the job of Ambassador to the UN by
President Donald Trump.
● Ms.Haley has carved out a space for herself in the
Republican politics in America. She raised her voice
against racism and on issues of gender.
● Her tenure at the UN has been marked by her strident
campaign against Russia, Iran and Syria. Mr.Trump
appreciated her service.

($2.4 million) to help the Samaritans' helpline which is a
confidential 24/7 freephone service.
● It expands its consultation services to people who are
dealing with mental health issues.

Hawkings final scientific paper on black holes has been  been 


released

● Stephen Hawking’s final scientific paper has been written
and posted online by his colleagues at Cambridge and
Harvard universities.
● The paper was completed days before his death.
● The paper titled ​‘Black Hole Entropy and Soft Hair’
tackles with what happens to information when it falls into
a black hole, a problem that theoretical physicists refer to
as ​‘the information paradox’​​.
● In his paper, Hawking had argued that black holes have a
temperature. Since hot objects lose heat into space, the
ultimate fate of a black hole is to evaporate out of
existence.
● However, the rules of the quantum world dictate that
information is never lost.
● So what happens to all the information contained in an
object when it tumbles into a black hole.
● In the latest paper, Hawking and his colleagues showed
how some of the information may be preserved.  
 
Malaysia to scrap death penalty

● Malaysia’s Cabinet has decided to abolish the ​death
penalty​​ which was welcomed by rights advocates.

● There are more than 1,200 people on death row set to win a
reprieve following a groundswell of opposition to capital
punishment.
● The move comes after the opposition of the public.
Executions are currently mandatory for murder, kidnapping
and drug trafficking, among other crimes, and is carried out
by hanging.
● Once the death penalty is scrapped, Malaysia will have the
moral authority to fight for the lives of Malaysians facing
death sentences abroad.

● Pakistan's anti-graft body has summoned ​Ali Jahangir
Siddiqui​​, the country's envoy to the US, for bribing a top
government official.
● Ali Jahangir Siddiqui allegedly bribed a top government
official by paying Rs.15 crore to get the diplomatic post.
Ambassador Siddiqui has been issued a notice to appear
before the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), Lahore.
● The transaction was made between him and former
Principal Secretary to Prime Minister Fawad Hasan Fawad.

President Ram Nath Kovind congratulated the valiant


air warriors of IAF on its 86th anniversary.
● IAF is the fourth largest air force in the world, after
the United States, Russia and China. IAF has around
1,500 aircraft in its fleet that operates out of 60 air
bases. It has more than 600 combat aircraft and over
500 transport carriers and choppers.
● The Indian Air Force has five commands across India:
the Western Air Command, with its headquarters in
New Delhi, the Southwestern Air Command at
Jodhpur in Rajasthan, the Eastern Air Command at
Shillong in Meghalaya, the Central Air Command at
Allahabad in Uttar Pradesh, and the Southern Air

● The upgraded MiG-29 showcased its combat
capabilities at Admapur, Maharashtra. MiG-29 is a
Russian-origin aircraft, now capable of effecting
mid-air refuelling, is compatible with latest missiles
and can launch multi-dimensional attacks.
● It should be noted that the previous ‘legacy version’ of
MiG-29 played an important role as the IAF stamped
its supremacy over the Pakistani force during the
Kargil War of 1999.
● New features of MiG-29:
○ Mid-air refuelling facility that increases its range
○ It has the ability to launch the latest missiles and
multi-dimensional attacks
○ It is capable to take off vertically
○ It has the ability to take off possible within 5
minutes of spotting a hostile jet

Centre approves Land pooling policy of Delhi 


Delhi 

● The Centre approved Delhi’s land pooling policy. The


policy has already been approved by the ​Delhi
Development Authority ​(DDA). Hardeep Puri, Minister of
the Housing and Urban Affairs, said no major changes were
made to the policy.
● The land pooling policy covers any urbanisable area of
urban extensions in 95 villages.
● With a Floor Area Ratio (FAR) of 200, Delhi’s 76 lakh
people will be accommodated in these homes.
● To promote affordable and inclusive housing, 15% FAR,
over and above the permissible FAR, has been allowed for
Economically Weaker Sections (EWS).
● The policy covers greenfield areas in five zones, including
J, K-1, L, N and P-II, which come under the Master Plan of
Delhi-2021 (MPD).
● Land Pooling​​: Land Pooling is a concept that where small
chunks or parcels of land are owned by a group of owners
who assemble for the development of infrastructure as per

IMF estimates growth rate of India as 7.3 percent this year  year 
● The​ International Monetary Fund ​(IMF) in its latest
World Economic Outlook (WEO) said that India has been
estimated to grow at 7.3% in 2018 and 7.4% in 2019.
● This is to regain the tag of the world’s fastest-growing
major economy 2018, surpassing China with more than
0.7% points. In 2017, India had clocked a 6.7% growth
rate.
● In India, important reforms like the Goods and Services
Tax (GST), the inflation-targeting framework, the
Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, and steps to liberalise
foreign investment and make it easier to do business have
been implemented in the recent years.
● China was the fastest-growing economy in 2017.
● The IMF has lowered the growth projections for both India
and China by 0.4% and 0.32%, respectively, from its
annual April’s WEO.
