CHAPTER I

INTRODUCTION

1.1 Background

English is the international language. By mastering English well, we


will be able to communicate with other nations in this world. In addition, we
will also be able to increase our knowledge and knowledge for the betterment
of our nation and state, because we will be able to read English literature, listen
to foreign radio broadcasts, and watch other science films. Thus, in the end we
can master knowledge in all fields.

In addition to increasing understanding of international languages,


learning English will at least make it easier for us to get a decent job, or to
provide our knowledge in the future. By understanding and mastering the
international language properly and correctly it certainly provides very good
benefits for all of us.
For this reason, it is necessary to first understand the grammar in
English. In addition to expediting the pronunciation method, we will also
understand how to arrange words that will be pronounced so that they become
one solid and correct sentence according to the tenses.

1.2 Problem Formulation

1.3 Purpose
From the formulation of the problem above, then I certainly aim to
explain or explain these points, in accordance with the knowledge I have
obtained, both from the source book and from the teachers. Hopefully

2 RECOUNT TEXT
2.1 Definition of Recount Text
Literally, recount means "telling". So it can recount text interpreted as
"Text telling". If referring to the information in recount text school books is a
text that tells the reader about one story, action or activity. Its goal is to
entertain or inform the reader. (a text that is tell a story, action or activity. The
purpose of recount text is to entertain or inform readers).

Generic Structure from Recount Text

Generic structure (general arrangement) recount this text consisting of:

 Orientation tells who was involved, what happened, where the


events took place, and when it happened. ("Orientation" tells who
is involved in the story, what happened, where the event occurred,
and when did the event occur)
 Events tell what happened and in what sequence. ("Event" tells
what happened (again) and told the order of the story)
 Reorientation consists of optional-closure of events / ending.
("Reorientation" contains the ending of the story / end of the story)

2.2 Various Recount Texts:

a. Personal Recount
That is to say about the author's personal experience
b. Factual Recount
That is a report of an event that actually happened, such as an
experimental report science, police reports.
c. Imaginative
That is, creating imaginative stories and writing down events or
events that has happened.

2.3 The Recount Text structure is as follows:

a. Orientation
That is an introduction in the form of providing information about
who, where and when the event or event occurred in the past.
b. Events
That is a recording of events that occur, usually delivered in
chronological order, such as: "In the first day ... And in the next day ...
And in the last day ... "In this section there are also personal comments
about events or events told.
c. Reorientation
That is the introduction of repetition in the orientation, repetition
of summary of events or events told.

Linguistic Characteristics Recount Text


When reading Recount Text, language traits will be found as follows :

a. Use sentences in the form of Past Tense.


Examples: We went to Bandung last year, I was very happy.
b. Using Action Verbs.
Examples: went, bought, wrote, slept, etc.
c. Using Adverbs and Adverbial Phrase to reveal time, place and
way.
Example: yesterday, at school, quickly, etc.
d. Using Conjunction and Time Connectives to sort event or event.
Examples: but, and, after that, etc.

2.4 Example Recount Text

My First Experience to Ride Motorcycle


One day, when I was ten years old, my father bought an old motorcycle.
That was " Honda 75". I think it was small light object and easy to ride it. I
persuaded my father to teach me to ride " Honda 75 ". Firstly, my father
refused my request and promised that he would teach me two or three years
later, but I still whimpered. Finally, my father surrendered and promised to
teach me.

He began to teach me riding the motorcycle around a field in my village.


My father was very patient to give me some directions. I was very happy
when I realized my ability to ride a motorcycle.

One day later, when I was alone at home, I intended to try my riding
ability. So, myself tried bravely. All ran fluently in the beginning, but when I
was going back to my home and I must passed through a narrow slippery
street, I got nervous. I lost my control and I fell to the ditch.

After that, I told my father about the last accident. I imagined my father
would be angry and never let me ride again. But the reality is exactly on the
contrary, my father was very proud of me. He just gave me some advices and
since that accident, I got my father's permission to ride motorcycle.

Analysis :
Orientation: First paragraph, (One day, when I was ten years old, my father
bought an old motorcycle. That was " Honda 75". I think it was small light
object and easy to ride it. I persuaded my father to teach me to ride " Honda
75 ".)

Events: First, second and third paragraphs. (Firstly, my father refused my
request and promised that he would teach me two or three years later, but

COVERING

3.1 Conclusion

Based on the paper, can be summarized as follows.Recounting text is a


text that tells the reader about one story, action or activity. Its goal is to
entertain or inform the reader.

3.2 Suggestion

Suggestion in this paper are that the authors expect from lecturers and
friends of students and readers so that this paper can be useful in the future
because the author is aware of the paper very far form word perfection.
