COURSE PLAN
Course Title Traffic Engineering and Safety
Course Code KNS 6183
Course Credit 3
Course Status Core
Prerequisite -
Synopsis This course introduces the principles and current practice of Transportation Engineering.
The aim is to impart knowledge and understanding of traffic flow theory, of the analysis,
design and evaluation processes for roads and road junctions, according to the requirements
of efficiency, safety and environmental protection. The aim is also to develop key skills in
analysis, design and evaluation, including software applications and a case study.
Course Outcomes By the end of this course, students should be able to:
(CO)
CO1 Demonstrate knowledge and have a good understanding of traffic flow theory
and traffic analysis processes for the evaluation and selection of suitable
traffic control devices for road intersections (CT)
CO2 Analyse and design unsignalised and signalised road intersections in the
context of urban traffic management and control System (CT)
CO3 Design and evaluate road junctions considering safety, efficiency and
environmental protection (CT)
CO4 Solve traffic engineering problems and propose solution(s) for a given case
study in a group, and present the findings through report and oral presentation.
(CS/LS)
.
Program Upon completion of this program, students will be able to:
