Self-Assessment and Improvement (Week 1: November 12 – November 17, 2018)

During my first week as an intern to Vision Properties Development Corporation, I have learned a lot

about the general notes, specifications and the floor plan of the site. On my first day, Engr. Christian our

Project Manager introduced me to different officers, engineers and employees, who warmly welcomed us.

On that day, I was toured by Engr. Jacob one of the project engineer/ Quality Assurance/ Quality Control in

concrete testing area. Concrete Testing is incredibly important part of building structures because without the

proper testing many buildings could possibly be constructed using low quality materials and end up being

quite dangerous in the future. Engr. Joseph our Rebar Engineer taught me how to read plans such as the

General Construction Works, Foundation Plan, and Framing Plan regarding construction. Second day, I was

oriented by our Safety Engineer, Engr. Adrian Parco about the importance of Personal Protective Equipment

(PPE). Engr. Adrian Parco always reminds everyone to wear the PPE such as hard hat, reflectorized vest,

safety shoes and harness in order to prevent the accident. I also learned about the different parts and

materials used in construction site on the day I was exposed in the field operation. The third day, Engr.

Joseph our Rebar Engineer taught me about the Filipino terms used in construction and I was toured also in

the warehouse in to order to be familiarize with different materials and equipment’s being used in the

construction.
On this week, I learned how to count rebars, how to read the structural plan, I also learned how to

improved my communication skills and critical thinking skills by asking questions to the engineer in charge

and other workers that was unanticipated to be approachable.

Being on site, I realized that if you work as an engineer in construction site, you will be exposed to

the sun. Even though I was exposed under the sun but still I learn a lot from them, they gave me ideas about

what I may be doing in the future. They made me realize that about the other things outside the field of work.

During my first week of my training at Vision Properties Development Corporation, I can say that I

learned a lot about the field of my study which is Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering (BSCE). I was

difficult to balance my time during my first week in training because aside from the tasked you were doing at

the site, I also have to go back to school to attend the class and to do some school works after duty. But the

learning, experiences, and bonding with the colleagues are worth the exhaustion and all the sleepless nights.
