It is with a great deal of excitement and enthusiasm that I am applying for the position of
History and/or Social Studies instructor. I believe that the combination of my instructional
skills, invigorating personality and strong work ethic would greatly benefit your school and
students. I have recently completed my student-teaching at Walton Charter Academy in
Pontiac, teaching 6th thru 8th grade social studies. I graduated this December, with a Bachelor’s
degree in History and a minor in Social Studies (RX endorsement). My current teaching
assignment has reaffirmed my passion for teaching, and a desire to work with students as I
instruct them in being able to understand the past, in order that the future will have meaning.

In order to assure that all students are learning, I use differentiated instruction, formative
assessments, constant probing questions of the content being taught, and exit slips. In
addition, I am familiar with research-based questioning strategies, Marzano and Danielson
Instructional Strategies, curriculum mapping, Microsoft Office programs, and Moodle.

While continually striving to engage all of my students, I also believe it is important to establish
positive relationships in order to assist them in building self-confidence and the applicable use
of history beyond the classroom. I would appreciate the opportunity to meet with you to
discuss how my talents and skills in both History and Social Studies, as well as my highly
successful experience in the classroom, can meet the needs of your school and students.
