Precision vs Accuracy:

Precision:

Random errors usually result from the experimenter's inability to take the same
measurement in exactly the same way to get exact the same number.

caused by unknown and unpredictable changes in the experiment occur in the

measuring instruments or in the environmental conditions.

Statistical variability – how close or far the values are to the average or mean (standard
deviation)

Accuracy
Systematic error:
Systematic errors in experimental observations usually come from the measuring
instruments
They may occur because:

 there is something wrong with the instrument or its data handling system, or
 because the instrument is wrongly used by the experimenter.

Statistical bias
cause a difference between a result and a "true" value

Repeatability vs reproducibility

Repeatability - the same location; the same measurement procedure; the same observer; the same
measuring instrument, used under the same conditions; and repetition over a short period of
time.

Reproducibility- degree of agreement between the results of experiments conducted by different

individuals, at different locations, with different instruments. Put simply, it measures our ability
to replicate the findings of others.
