Question 1.

The graph of 𝑓(𝑡) is given by

Write each function in terms of unit step function whose graphs are given by

a) b)

c)

Question 2.

a) Devise a mathematical model for the temperature of a cake while it is inside the oven
based on the following assumptions: At 𝑡 = 0, the cake mixture is at room temperature of
400 𝐶, the oven is not preheated, so at 𝑡 = 0, when the cake mixture is placed into the
oven, the temperature inside the oven is 400 𝐶, the temperature of the oven increases
linearly until 𝑡 = 10 𝑚𝑖𝑛, when the desired temperature of 2000 𝐶, the oven temperature
is a constant for 2000 𝐶 for 𝑡 ≥ 10.
b) Use the Laplace transforms to solve the initial value problem in part (a).
Question 3.

a) Write expression of 𝑓 (𝑡 ).
b) Write 𝑓(𝑡) in terms of unit step function.
c) Carry out the Laplace transform.

Question 4.

Use Laplace transform to solve the following initial value problem

𝑦 ′′ + 4𝑦 ′ + 3𝑦 = 𝑔(𝑡 ); 𝑦(0) = 𝑦 ′ (0) = 0

1, 0 ≤ 𝑡 < 2
0, 2 ≤ 𝑡 < 4
𝑔 (𝑡 ) = {
−1, 4 ≤ 𝑡 < 6
0, 6≤𝑡
