THE STRUCTURE FOR INSTALLING SCOUR SENSOR 
 
8 CORROSION PROTECTION FOR STEEL STRUCTURE 

 According standard ISO 12944‐2 Corrosion protection - Classification of environments, choose

the environment condition as below: 

 
 The durability about the steel structure is 20 years, refer to the condition in ISO 12944‐5  A5.5 : 

 
Please note that the durability is diffirent with the guaranteed time (according ISO 12944). 
 From the environment condition and the durability, the choosen of corrosion protection as 
below : 

 
The  Surface  preparation  shall  be  done  as  per  ISO  8501  with  cleaning  method  Sa  2  ½  (Very 
throrough blast cleaning) with base on the rust grade relevant. 
Conclusion,  the  steel  structure  for  installing  scour  sensor  will  be  protect  with 4  coats  and  total 
thickness is 500um : 
‐ Coal tar epoxy priming coat : 1 coat thickness 120 um. 
‐ Coal tar epoxy top coat : 3 coats with total thickness 380 um (127 um each coat)
