required clearances.
b) Provide bracing and stiffening members as required. Drill and punch
channels as required for fastening; attach and tie channels securely; draw
bolts tight. Provide concrete and masonry anchors, as approved by the
Architect. Cut and drill concrete or masonry as required for attachment of
furring.
c) Repair furring disturbed or damaged due to installation work of other trades.

f) Isolate metal support furring systems from transfer of structural loading and
deflections by slip joints or resilient cushioning.
g) Splice furring members and runners by lapping and wire-tying, screwing or
bolting. Lap furring 300mm.
h) Inserts, cast into concrete slabs or wedge type inserts, shall be required for
support of ceiling systems. Where adjustments in the field are necessary or
required for additional bracing and stiffening, use expansion bolts.
Expansion bolts shall be drilled into concrete with holes the exact diameter
of the bolts and shall be installed to achieve full load capacities.
i) All ceiling hangers over 1200mm in depth, shall be cross-braced with 19mm
furring channels and wire tied.
j) Provide one vibration isolator, of type specified, at every hanger for plaster,
gypsum board, or veneer plaster hung ceilings in special sound isolated
spaces. See drawings for location and details. Ends of metal cross bracing
abutting masonry shall be capped with semi-rigid sound absorbing pads
subject to approval.
3.2 Metal Furring Installation
3.2.1 Suspended Plaster Ceilings:
All work for hung plaster ceilings shown on the Drawings or Finish Schedules shall
comply with the following:
a) Inserts:
Coordinate installation of ceiling hanger inserts, furnished under this section,
in concrete to provide hanger spacing as required for main runner channels.
Spacing of inserts not to exceed 1.25m on centre in either direction and at
perimeter of ceilings as required. Set inserts on top of concrete slab
reinforcement and securely wire tie thereto, unless shown otherwise on
Drawings.
Provide wedge type inserts for composite concrete and steel floor slabs.
b) Hangers:
Install hangers as required for main runner channel spacing and not to
exceed spacing as specified for inserts. Locate a hanger within 150mm of
ends of main runner channels. Thread rod hangers and bolt strap hangers
to inserts to develop full strength of hangers.
c) Main Runner Channels:
Use 37mm hot-rolled or cold-rolled main runner channels set to proper levels
for finished plaster. Space main runner channels 1.25m o.c.. Locate a main
runner channel within 150mm of walls to support ends of cross furring
channels. Saddle rod hangers and bolt strap hangers to main runners to
develop full strength of hangers. Double ties at all special ceiling conditions
and provide details for same on Shop Drawings submitted for review.
d) Cross Furring Channel:
Use 19mm cold-rolled cross furring channels spaced as required for metal
lath, but not more than 300mm apart for 1.25m span. Locate a cross furring
channel within 50mm of parallel walls or partitions. Saddle tie cross furring
to main runners with double tie wire at each intersection. Tie channels with
3 wraps and secure with 3 turns. Double-up every other tie at special ceiling
conditions.

Furnish and install all metal furring, bent to required shapes, reinforced and
securely and rigidly fixed in place to accommodate profiles of all coves,
recesses and curves.
f) Interferences:
When interferences require greater spacing of hangers than specified,
provide special hangers and main runners as required by referenced Metal
Lath Association specifications or BS standards to suit the conditions and
provide adequate support. Submit details for approval. Hangers and
suspension system shall not be fastened to or abut ducts or pipes.

reinforcement and securely wire tie thereto unless otherwise shown on
Drawings. Provide additional strength inserts to accommodate special ceiling
conditions.
Provide wedge type inserts for composite concrete and steel floor slabs.
b) Hangers:
Install hangers as required for main runner channel spacing and not to
exceed spacing so specified for inserts. Locate a hanger within 150mm of
ends of main runner channels. Tie wire hangers to inserts to develop full
strength of hangers. Double-up on all ties at special ceiling conditions and

suspension system members, the Contractor shall also consider the
effect of the gypsum plasterboards, the ceiling dead loads on the
hangers, and the method of attaching the hangers to the inserts and
channels.
ii) The Contractor shall make all adjustments to the suspended metal
furring system to obtain the required design ceiling elevations. Note
that bottom edge of metal edge beads shall be at the finish elevation
for the ceiling.
