Section 3: Diagnostics

Checkout Procedures
Checking the General Functions of the CAMERA

Important
You must do these procedures before returning the CAMERA to the customer.
[1] Check:
• MODE/POWER SWITCH is in the “OFF” position
• MODE DIAL is in the “AUTO” position
[2] Install:
• RECHARGEABLE BATTERY in the CAMERA
• 5 V AC ADAPTER to:
– CAMERA DOCK
– source of power
• CAMERA in the CAMERA DOCK. See “Configurations for the CAMERA DOCK” on Page 6.
[3] Check that one or more of the 3 LEDs for the BATTERY on the CAMERA DOCK illuminate green.
[4] Energize the CAMERA.
[5] Check that the CAMERA energizes.
[6] De-energize the CAMERA.
[7] Remove:
• CAMERA from the CAMERA DOCK
• BATTERY from the CAMERA
[8] Connect the 5 V AC ADAPTER to the “DC IN 5V” port on the CAMERA.
[9] Energize the CAMERA.
[10] Check that the CAMERA energizes.
[11] De-energize the CAMERA.
[12] Remove the 5 V AC ADAPTER from the CAMERA.
[13] Install a RECHARGEABLE BATTERY in the CAMERA.
[14] Energize the CAMERA.
[15] Check that the CAMERA energizes.
[16] De-energize the CAMERA.
[17] Insert the MEMORY CARD into the CAMERA.
[18] Connect the 5 V AC ADAPTER to the CAMERA DOCK.
[19] Install the CAMERA on the CAMERA DOCK. See “Configurations for the CAMERA DOCK” on Page 6.
[20] Energize the CAMERA.
[21] Check the energize sequence:
• POWER LED illuminates green
• MONITOR LCD:
– displays “Kodak EasyShare System” for 2 seconds
– displays the “AUTO” mode for 4 seconds
– does not display error codes
• LENS moves to the default “Wide” position

[22] De-energize the CAMERA.


[23] Check the de-energize sequence:
• MONITOR LCD displays black
• LENS moves in
• POWER LED de-energizes
[24] Remove the CAMERA from the CAMERA DOCK.
[25] Install a new BATTERY that has a full charge.
[26] Energize the CAMERA.
[27] Check the energize sequence. See Step 21.
[28] Press:
• “EVF/LCD” BUTTON to check that the view moves from the MONITOR LCD and the VIEWFINDER AY
• “EVF/LCD” BUTTON again to illuminate the MONITOR LCD

Important
The default position is “Wide”.
[29] Move the ZOOM LEVER to check that the LENS moves from “Wide” to “Tele” position.
[30] Check:
• ZOOM indicates on the MONITOR LCD
• MONITOR LCD is in focus when the LENS stops moving from “Wide” to “Tele” position
[31] Press the SHUTTER BUTTON to capture an image.
[32] Check that the MONITOR LCD displays:
• image
• number of additional images that can be captured
• icons:
– “Flash” mode
– quality of the image
– type of memory
[33] Press the “EVF/LCD” BUTTON to move the view to the VIEWFINDER AY.
[34] Check that the view is in focus.
[35] Move the ZOOM LEVER to check that the LENS moves from “Tele” to “Wide” position.
[36] Check:
• ZOOM indicates on the VIEWFINDER AY
• VIEWFINDER AY is in focus when the LENS stops moving from “Tele” to “Wide” position
[37] Press the SHUTTER BUTTON to capture an image.
[38] Check that the VIEWFINDER AY displays:
• image
• number of additional images that can be captured
• icons:
– “Flash” mode
– quality of the image
– type of memory
[39] Press the “EVF/LCD” BUTTON to move the view to the MONITOR LCD.

[40] Check the following BUTTONS and SWITCHES:

4. Check that options display.
5. Press:
• JOYSTICK left and right to display other images
• “REVIEW” BUTTON

INFO 1. In “Liveview” mode, press the INFO BUTTON.
2. Check that only the “Battery” icon and the FRAMING MARKS display on the
MONITOR LCD.
3. Press the INFO BUTTON again.
4. Check that only the FRAMING MARKS display.
5. Press the INFO BUTTON again.
6. Check that the icons display.
7. Press:
• “REVIEW” BUTTON to display an image
• INFO BUTTON
8. Check that the MONITOR LCD displays data about the image.
9. Press the INFO BUTTON 3 times.
10. Check that the MONITOR LCD does not display the icons.
“DELETE” 1. Press the “DELETE” BUTTON.
2. Use the JOYSTICK to select “PICTURE”.
3. Press:
• OK BUTTON to delete the image
• “REVIEW” BUTTON
4. Check that the image is deleted.
5. Press the “REVIEW” BUTTON to quit.

ZOOM LEVER, “T” 1. Move the ZOOM LEVER to the “T” for “Tele”.
2. Check:
• MONITOR LCD is in focus from the “Wide” to “Tele” positions
• LENS moves from the “Wide” to “Tele” positions
ZOOM LEVER, “W” 1. Move the ZOOM LEVER to the “W” BUTTON.
2. Check:
• MONITOR LCD is in focus from the “Tele” to “Wide” positions
• LENS moves from the “Tele” to “Wide” positions
• FLASH 1. Move the MODE DIAL to “P”.
• “SET” 2. Press the FLASH BUTTON to check that the menu displays:
• COMMAND DIAL • “Auto”
• “Fill”
• “Redeye”
• “Slow front sync”
• “Off”
3. Select the “Off” position.
4. Check that the “Exposure Compensation” icon displays on the MONITOR
LCD.
5. Move the COMMAND DIAL left and right to select the “Exposure
Compensation” icon.
6. Press the “SET” BUTTON.
7. Check that the icon changes color.
8. Move the COMMAND DIAL to change the setting of the icon.
9. Press the “SET” BUTTON.
10. In low light, press the SHUTTER BUTTON to the “S1” position.
11. Check that the “AE” and “AF” icons display on the MONITOR LCD.
12. Move the MODE DIAL to “AUTO”.
13. Press the FLASH BUTTON.
14. Select the “Auto” option.
SHUTTER 1. Press the SHUTTER BUTTON to capture an image.
2. Check:
• STROBE AY opens and the STROBE flashes
• an image displays on the MONITOR LCD

MODE DIAL The MODE DIAL has 10 options.
[41] Check each of the options on the MODE DIAL.
Selected MODE DIAL
Option Do:
“AUTO” 1. Move the MODE DIAL to “AUTO”.
2. Check that “Auto:” displays on the MONITOR LCD.
3. Press the SHUTTER BUTTON to the “S1” position.
4. Check that the following information displays on the MONITOR LCD:
• aperture setting
• SHUTTER speed
“P”, “A”, “S”, “M”, “C1”, 1. Move the MODE DIAL to each option.
“C2”, “C3” 2. Check that the corresponding option name displays on the MONITOR LCD.
3. Use the COMMAND DIAL to select the icons of the settings.
4. Select an icon and press the “SET” BUTTON.
5. Check:
• icon changes color
• COMMAND DIAL changes the setting

Selected MODE DIAL


Option Do:
“Video” 1. Move the MODE DIAL to the “Video” icon.
2. Check:
• “Video:” displays on the MONITOR LCD
• FRAMING MARKS are disabled
3. Press and release the SHUTTER BUTTON.
4. During the video file recording, check:
• “REC” on the MONITOR LCD flashes
• recording time displays on the MONITOR LCD
5. Speak some words.
6. Press and release the SHUTTER BUTTON.
7. Check that the MONITOR LCD displays an icon for playing back.
8. Press the OK BUTTON.
9. Check that the video file begins to play back.
10. Press the JOYSTICK to the right.
11. Check that the video file plays back at a faster speed.
12. Press the OK BUTTON.
13. Check that the video stops.
14. Press the “MENU” BUTTON.
15. Check that the MONITOR LCD displays a list of options.
16. Press:
• “MENU” BUTTON to quit
• OK BUTTON
17. Check:
• video file continues
• audio plays back
18. Press the “REVIEW” BUTTON to quit.
“SCN” 1. Press the “SCN” BUTTON to display the 16 “scene” icons at the bottom of
the MONITOR LCD.
2. Check that the selected “scene” is identified with:
• name of the “scene”
• one of the 16 icons has blue edges indicating the selected icon
• additional icon in the lower right corner of the MONITOR LCD
3. Move the JOYSTICK:
• left
• right
4. Check that the selected icon changes.
5. Press the OK BUTTON.

3. Check that the CAMERA flashes once, then flashes again.

[43] To check the operation of the FAVORITES SWITCH, move the MODE/POWER SWITCH to the “Favorites”
position.

“Entering Favorites...” 1. Check that “Entering Favorites...” displays on the MONITOR LCD.
2. Any images labeled with the “Favorites” icon display automatically.
3. Press:

4. Press the “DRIVE” BUTTON again to quit.

3. Check that a list of options display for the flash.

EXPOSURE 1. Move the MODE DIAL to any of the “P”, “A”, “S”, “M”, “C1”, “C2”, “C3”

2. Press the EXPOSURE METERING BUTTON.
3. Check that a list of options display for the exposure and light.
4. Press the EXPOSURE METERING BUTTON again to quit.

Important
“Automatic Exposure” is the default mode.
1. Press:

2. Move the JOYSTICK to “AE/AF button set”.

• OK BUTTON once to display the options
• OK BUTTON again to select the “AE lock” option
• “MENU” BUTTON
• “AE/AF” BUTTON to lock the exposure setting
4. Check that “AEL” displays on the MONITOR LCD.
5. Press the “AE/AF” BUTTON again to allow adjustment of the exposure
setting.

Checking the ACTUATION, FLASH, and POWER-ON COUNTERS Without the SERVICE
SOFTWARE
[1] Energize the CAMERA.
[2] Press:
• “MENU” BUTTON
• JOYSTICK to the right
• JOYSTICK up to be on the “ABOUT...” option
[3] At the same time, press:
• “DELETE” BUTTON

Checking the “Self-Timer” Function


[1] Press the “DRIVE” BUTTON.
[2] Check that the MONITOR LCD illuminates.
[3] Use the JOYSTICK and the OK BUTTON to select “Self timer 10 sec.”.
[4] Press the SHUTTER BUTTON to the “S2” position.
[5] Check that an image is captured in 10 seconds.
[6] Press the “DRIVE” BUTTON.
[7] Use the JOYSTICK and the OK BUTTON to select “Single”.
[8] Press the “DRIVE” BUTTON again to quit.

Checking the “Burst” Function


[1] Press the “DRIVE” BUTTON.
[2] Check that the MONITOR LCD illuminates.
[3] Use the JOYSTICK and the OK BUTTON to select “First Burst”.
[4] Press and hold the SHUTTER BUTTON to the “S2” position for 3 seconds.
[5] Release the SHUTTER BUTTON.
[6] Press:
• “REVIEW” BUTTON to check that up to 5 images are captured
• “REVIEW” BUTTON again to quit
• “DRIVE” BUTTON
[7] Use the JOYSTICK and the OK BUTTON to select “Single”.

Checking the Communication


[1] Connect the CAMERA DOCK to the computer with the USB CABLE.
[2] Download the images and the video file with the USER SOFTWARE.
[3] Check the quality of the images.
[4] Do “Connecting to the SERVICE SOFTWARE” on Page 75. If successful, the USB interface on the DOCK
CONNECTOR is operating correctly.
[5] Remove the CAMERA from the CAMERA DOCK.
[6] Disconnect the USB CABLE from the CAMERA DOCK.
[7] Connect the USB CABLE to the CAMERA.
[8] Download the 2 images with the USER SOFTWARE. If successful, the USB CONNECTOR on the TB3 BOARD
is operating correctly.

Checking the Accessories


VIDEO CABLE
[1] Disconnect the USB CABLE from the CAMERA.
[2] Connect the VIDEO MONITOR to the CAMERA with the VIDEO CABLE.
[3] If you are not using the internal memory, insert a MEMORY CARD with image files into the CAMERA.
[4] Energize the CAMERA.
[5] Press the “REVIEW” BUTTON.
[6] Check that the MONITOR LCD de-energizes and the image displays on the VIDEO MONITOR.
[7] De-energize the CAMERA.
[8] Remove the MEMORY CARD.

[9] Energize the CAMERA.


[10] Check that the green LED next to the VIEWFINDER blinks.

Kodak P20 ZOOM FLASH

Important
If the customer sends a P20 ZOOM FLASH with the CAMERA, you must do this procedure.
[1] Install the P20 ZOOM FLASH onto the HOT SHOE on the CAMERA.
[2] Energize:
• P20 ZOOM FLASH
• CAMERA
[3] Set the mode to “AUTO”.
[4] Wait until the READY LIGHT on the P20 ZOOM FLASH remains illuminated.
[5] Press the SHUTTER BUTTON to the “S2” position.
[6] Check that the FLASH operates.
[7] Use:
• MANUAL ZOOM RING
• ZOOM LENS
[8] Set the zoom to 140 mm.
[9] Do Step 4 - Step 6 again.

[1] Connect the CAMERA DOCK to the computer with the USB CABLE.

Specification: The test results must comply with the specification values.
• Temperature when “TEMP” = a 2 point adjustment. For example, 25.0 - 250.
• L=XX:F=XX, each of the 7 series of adjustment values are “OK”

Installing the SERVICE SOFTWARE


[1] Which version of the Microsoft Windows OPERATING SYSTEM are you using?
Windows 98, ME, 2000 Windows XP
a. Install the Kodak EasyShare SOFTWARE. Continue with Step 2.
b. Advance to Step 3.

[2] Which version of the Kodak EasyShare SOFTWARE are you using?
Version 4 Version 5
a. Install the Kodak EasyShare SOFTWARE. a. Select the “Custom” installation.
b. Continue with Step 3. b. Load only the connection DRIVERS for the
CAMERA.
c. Continue with Step 3.

[3] From the Kodak Partner Site, make a copy of the .zip file of the “Software and Firmware” for the CAMERA.
[4] Decompress 3 files from the .zip file.
• “DscCalDi.exe”
• “camapi32.dll”
• “PTPApi32.dll”
[5] Make a folder on your HARD DRIVE for the software.
[6] Place the 3 files into the folder.

Connecting to the SERVICE SOFTWARE

Upgrading the Firmware Using the MEMORY CARD

Important
When you install a new CP1 BOARD - MCU, the correct version of the firmware file must be installed.
[1] Connect the 5 V AC ADAPTER to the CAMERA.
[2] Energize the CAMERA.
[3] Check that “AUTO...” is selected for the “IMAGE STORAGE”.
[4] De-energize the CAMERA.
[5] Insert:
• MEMORY CARD in a CARD READER
• CARD READER in the computer
[6] Format the MEMORY CARD.
[7] Make a folder in the root directory on the MEMORY CARD with the name “System”.
[8] Obtain the firmware file “KP850nnn.FW” from the https://partner.kodak.com/ Web site.
[9] Make a copy of the new version of the “KP850nnn.FW” file.
[10] Install the “KP850nnn.FW” file into the “System” folder on the MEMORY CARD.
[11] Remove the MEMORY CARD from the computer.
[12] Install the MEMORY CARD into the CAMERA.

Important
Do not select any other mode during the energizing.
[13] Energize the CAMERA.
[14] Check that the CAMERA energizes.
[15] Do the steps that display on the MONITOR LCD using the JOYSTICK to select:
• “Upgrade”
• “Continue”
[16] Check that downloading begins.
[17] Wait until downloading completes.
[18] When the downloading is completed, select either “Delete upgrade file” or “Exit”.
[19] De-energize the CAMERA.
[20] Remove the MEMORY CARD.
[21] Energize the CAMERA.
[22] Check that the firmware on the CAMERA is the correct version.
[23] If either of the following conditions occur, do this procedure again:
• upgrading the firmware was not successful
• 5 V AC ADAPTER is disconnected from the CAMERA during the downloading

• computer
[5] Energize the CAMERA.
[6] On the “EasyShare Transfer” window, click [Cancel].
[7] Select:

• Edit>Copy

• “P850 Camera” icon
• “Internal Memory” folder
[9] Select:
