The idea that a race (or races) of giant semi-human beings once lived on earth certainly sounds preposterous to
most people. Certainly to the scientists. When they uncover the skeletons of what appear to be 9-14ft. tall
humans (as they do) they prefer to remain silent. But the story of the giants, the Nephilim and the Repha'im, is
clearly found in the Scriptures. It is also attested to by other ancient Hebrew literature. But surprisingly few
people are aware of this or refuse to believe the Scriptures. The spiritual value of knowing the story of the
Nephilim lies in the fact that this forgotten facet of our history holds the answers too many questions that have
been asked. Why the flood came? Why Yisrael was told to slaughter certain Kena¶anite peoples - men, woman
and children?
Also it gives greater understanding of the following texts:
Y Do you not know that

? How much more these things that are of this world?
For if Elohim did not spare the angels who sinned, but sent them to Tartaros (lowermost), and
delivered them into chains of darkness, to be ,
This like much else in Scripture is an important chapter of the history of sin's destructiveness which should be
known by all.
Y And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were
born to them,

  !
(This is a very literal translation from Hebrew.) Who were the "sons of the Elohim"? This expression is used
only a few times in Scripture and always refers to a being which came into existence by the direct act of
Yahuah. Yahusha is such, and indeed He opens the way for us to become "sons of Elohim" by being "born
again".
"YY #

 !
But generally it is used in reference to heavenly beings - messengers or angels - as we see in lyob
#Y Now it fell upon a day, that
came to present themselves before Yahuah and Satan
also came among them.
#Y Again it fell upon a day, that the
came to present themselves before Yahuah and Satan
also came among them to present himself before Yahuah.
This usage is evident as the "sons of the Elohim" are shown in contrast to "man" (mankind). Some have
objected to this concept - heavenly beings mating with human women - because of what Yahusha said in
regarding to those who are raised in the resurrection being "as messengers (angels)" and not marrying.
Y% For when they arise from the dead, #

 that are in heaven.
& Yahusha said to them, The sons of this world beget and bear children, marry and are given in
marriage. But those who are worthy of that world and the resurrection that is from the dead
. For neither are they able to die, for

because they are sons of the resurrection.
However it is not the meaning of this text in that the heavenly being marry, rather it shows that they departed
from their proper role. Indeed other literature that will be examined shortly supports Yahusha, and says that
Yahuah did not intend for the messengers (angles) to take wives, but that this action on their part was rebellion
against Yahuah. We may wonder how it is possible for heavenly beings to cross breed with humans. But in the
age of in-vitro fertilization and genetic engineering, when human genes have been put into pigs, it should not be
difficult for us to imagine that this could be done - as indeed it was.

Nephilim means "fallen ones" in reference to these heavenly beings who fell physically and spiritually. And
alternatively it means "tyrants" due to the fact that these beings brought wickedness to the earth. This first

occurrence is prior to the flood, and is the reason why the flood occurred. Mankind became so genetically
mixed with the Nephilim that few of the pure race of Adam remained, and it probably would have become
extinct if Yahuah had not intervened. Notice in Bereshit 6:4 it says that not only where the Nephilim on the
earth "in Those days" but also "afterward," that is, after the flood.
( These are the genealogy of Noach. ô

 ; Noach walked with Elohim.
Yahuah chose Noach because he was a "righteous man in his generations (descent, family history)." In other
words Noach and his family were of the pure race of Adam, able to carry the line into a new beginning.
#Y And they spread an evil report of the land which they had spied out unto the children of
Yisrael, saying: µThe land, through which we have passed to spy is out, is a land that eats up the inhabitants
thereof; and all the people that we saw in it are . And there ô$

; and we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in their eyes.
The report of the spies regarding the land on Kena'an - This is the first direct reference to them being of large
size. Back in Bereshit 6:4 we were only told that they were "mighty men...men of renown." Undoubtedly the
action and exploits of these Nephilim were the basis for the pagan deities and mythology. These giants were
also called Repha'im; we find this name used not only for the Anakim, but also the Emim and Zamzumim.
*# Y&YYThe Emim dwelt therein aforetime, a people great, and many, and tall, as the Anakim; these

Og, who you will remember was the giant king of Bashan, was of the Repha'im. His bed was over 13ft. long!
Indeed Bashan had formerly been a land of the Repha'im, the remnants of their giant-sized cities can still be
found there today.

Probably due to the loss of scripture we do not know how the second outbreak of Nephilim came about. The
sons of Elohim that were responsible for the pre-flood outbreak had been imprisoned in the earth to await the
day of judgement as we read in 2Kafa 2:4. However, the goal was still to corrupt the "seed of the women" - for
this seems to have been the aim of the adversary - to prevent the coming of the Messiah, the promised "seed" by
corrupting the genetic line.
Y% And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between 0 ; He
shall gape your head, and you shall gape His heel. (Promise of the Messiah.)
Yahuah instructed Yisrael to completely destroy those people who had mixed with them.
*# &YY1 Howbeit of the cities of these peoples, that Yahuah your Elohim gives you for an
inheritance, you shall save alive nothing that breathes, but you shall utterly destroy them: the Hittite and the
Amorite and the Kena¶anites and the Perizzite and the Hiuite, and the Yebusite; as Yahuah your Elohim has
commanded you, that they teach you not to do after all their abominations, which they have done unto their
elohim, and so you sin against Yahuah your Elohim.
It was Da¶ud and his men who killed Golyath and his family.
0YY And Yishbi-Benob, who was of the sons of the giant, the weight of whose spear was three
hundred shekels of brass in weight, he being girded with a new armor, thought to have slain Da¶ud. But Abishai
son of Tzeruyah succored him, and smote the Philistine and killed him. Then the men of Da¶ud swore unto him,
saying, µYou shall go no more out with us to battle, that you quench not the lamp of Yisrael.¶ And it came to
pass after this, that there was again war with the Philistines at Gob; then Sibkai the Hushathite slew Saf, who
was of the sons of the giant. And there was again war with the Philistines at Gob; and Elhanan the son of
Ya`arei-Orgim the Beit Lechemite slew Golyat the Gittite, the shaft of whose spear was like a weaver¶s beam.

And there was again war at Gat, where there was a champion, that had on every hand six fingers, and on every
foot six toes, four and twenty in number; and he also was born to the giant. And when he taunted Yisrael,
Yahunathan the son of Shimea Da¶ud¶s brother slew him. These four were born to the giant in Gat, and they fell
by the hand of Da¶ud and by the hand of his servants.
The book of Ë#
%Y says the following: And it came to pass when the children of men began to multiply
on the face of the earth and daughters were born unto them, that the angels of Elohim saw them on a certain
year of this jubilee, that they were beautiful to look upon; and they took themselves wives of all whom they
chose, and they bare unto them sons and they were giants. And lawlessness increased on the earth and all flesh
corrupted its way, alike men and cattle and beasts and birds and everything that walks on the earth -all of them
corrupted their ways and their orders, and they began to devour each other, and lawlessness increased on the
earth and every imagination of the thoughts of all men (was) thus evil continually. And Elohim looked upon the
earth, and behold it was corrupt, and all flesh had corrupted its orders, and all that were upon the earth had
wrought all manner of evil before His eyes. And He said that He would destroy man and all flesh upon the face
of the earth which He had created. But Noach found grace before the eyes of the Yahuah. And against the
angels whom He had sent upon the earth, He was exceedingly wroth, and He gave commandment to root them
out of all their dominion, and He bade us to bind them in the depths of the earth, and behold they are bound in
the midst of them, and are (kept) separate.
The book of Hanoch, which comes to us quoted in " YYY% And Hanoch, the seventh from Adam,
prophesied about these men also saying, Behold, Yahuah comes with ten thousands of His set-apart ones, to
execute judgment on all, to convict all who are wicked among them of all their wicked deeds which they have
committed in a wicked way, and all the harsh things which wicked sinners have spoken against Him.
The book of Hanoch contains extensive material on this subject. Hanoch bore witness against these messenger
rebels called "Watchers" and recorded their actions.
Y!, Hanoch scribe of righteousness. Go and inform the Watchers of Heaven, who have left the High
Heaven and the Set-Apart Eternal Place, and have corrupted themselves with women, and have done as the sons
of men do and have taken wives for themselves, and have become completely corrupt on the earth. Y!% They
will have on Earth, neither peace, nor forgiveness of sin, for they will not rejoice in their sons. Y The slaughter
of their beloved ones they will see; and over the destruction of their sons they will lament and petition forever.
But they will have neither mercy nor peace."
There is much more recorded in the book of Hanoch on the subject of the sin of the Watchers and Nephilim.
