Dia de Los Muertos (Mexico)

Dia de Los Muertos or “ Day of the Dead” is a holiday celebrated in Mexico between

October 31th and November 2nd.

On this holiday, the Mexicans remember and honor the deads with celebrations that

combine indigenous rituals with Catholicism.

They believe that on this day, they are visited by their family members that have

passed away.

An altar, built in private homes and cemeteries, is the centerpiece of this celebration.

Some families place their dead loved one’s favorite meal on the altar and other

common offering is Pan de muerto, or bread of the dead, that is a typical sweet bread

(pan dulce).

Day of the Dead is a very social holiday because people of all ages go to the streets

and public squares at all hours of the day and night. They dress up as skeletons and

have their faces painted to seem like skulls.
